Volumetric Display Possiblies

Hello,

I am a student at RIT and working on my senior project based on volumetric display. I am doing my best to following from the PDF document that release 7 years ago. My senior project was to use this system and have it project the hologram like image in colors. I was wondering about the product, DLP LightCrafter™ (i believe it would be 3000) and DLP LightCrafter4500.

My question:

Are both of them are three-chip DLP video projector? (Not single-chip DLP video projector)

Can they be projected in color?

The LightCrafter systems have a single DLP device. They project color using three LEDs; Red, Green, and Blue and time sequentially displaying images of each color so the eye interpolates it as a single color image. The following applications notes explain the operation of the DLP devices:

Hello RIT,

The 3 DLP Chip solution is used in DLP Cinema application (large venue projection) applications. The reset ones are mainly single chip solution.

For your volumetric display application, you can use 3 LightCrafters and drive them with Red , Green and Blue channel data separately. The only challenge would be to mechanically keep all the projector outputs perfectly aligned.
