A question about illuminating conditions

Hello, we're planning to upgrade our product design based on DLP. We need to increase the illuminating intensity.

According to the specification, vis DMD recommended 25W/sq cm use continuous wave(400nm-800nm), but for our design we used an LD laser(405nm) as light source.

I just wondered what the limitation of illuminating intensity using 405nm light source for the vis DMD is. And how about UV type?

Thanks a lot for helping . My username? :-) Because 1984 for my birthday is Mouse's year in Chinese tradition ,and my family name is Sun. So your username..uh.. physics?

An additional question, is it necessary to provide adequate cooling for DMD when using such large density light(25W/sq cm) and it works at a high frequency (like 10KHz frame rate ,maybe)? The temperature of environment is about 20~25 `C.

Is there a markedly effect to DMD's lifetime for the working temperature, Frequency ,and light density ? I mean under the conditions that they meet the specifications.

Welcome to the DLP Section of the E2E community. I like your username.

I am very sorry that your question got overlooked for a bit.

At 405 nm you should be fine with the visible part and will not see any appreciable advantage from the UV type. It is important with either type (VIS or UV) to remain below the 25W/sq cm power density. Also the closer to 25 C that you can keep the DMD the better.

Yes, my degree is in Physics, therefore the username Fizix.

Anything that will help to keep the DMD package at about 25 degrees will be beneficial. At that laser wattage you may see significant absorbtive heating.

Our internal data suggests that smaller wavelengths and higher temperatures do have some affect on lifetime.
