Products other than the DLP Pico Projector Development Kit

Hello,

I have been working with the DLP Pico Projector Development Kit. I have been able to set up one pattern (checkerboard) but now I am wondering can I control the individual mirrors of the DLP Pico Projector Development Kit. More specifically, can I somehow use a software/computer program or whatever to issue a command that will let for example mirror in column 5 row 9 move( or move mirror in position x, y move in the on or off state)?

If I can't do that is there another product I can buy that allows me to do that?

Thank you,

  • Hello Noor,

All DLP products allow you to "control individual mirrors" by sending patterns or images with those pixels turned on. For example, if you wanted the DMD to display all black with one pixel turned on in column 5 row 9, you would send an all black pattern, with one white pixel in column 5 row 9. If you wanted this pixel to move in the x or y direction, you would send a new pattern where the pixel had moved accordingly.

This is how virtually all DLP products work, but for your application, I would suggest one of our LightCrafter models, perhaps the LightCrafter or the LightCrafter4500 as they seem to fit your need (judging from your other posts) and have better ease of use for someone new to DLP. As I have mentioned, the Pico Projector Development Kit will be difficult to find support for as it has been discontinued and is no longer actively supported by TI.

    Best regards,
    Trevor
  • Ok, thank you for your response. So, the DLP pico projector is not just limited to issuing patterns like checkerboards or stripped patterns; commands can be issued to control the individual micromirrors? (The manuals do not show how I could control an individual mirror (pixel). It just provides information on what patterns I can generate.) Just to clarify: Are you saying that I could issue commands to let some mirror(s) in the x y position be on the off/on state or to be controlled? Or are you saying that I could just put a black image on the computer screen and somehow find out which mirror I want to be controlled and change it on the black sceren on the computer screen for it to then be projected on the pico projector? How exactly would I know which micromirror I am controlling or issuing commands to? I greatly appreciate your help. For the Light crafter can I just make patterns or can I control the individual mirrors by way of issuing commands?
