DLP LightCrafter Evaluation Module Internal Stored Pattern Sequences

Hi, I want to project a short sequence of simple binary patterns at ~240Hz using a DLP LightCrafter Evaluation Module. If I understand correctly, this refresh rate can only be achieved in the "Internal Stored Pattern Sequences" mode, which supports up to 96 different binary patterns. The issue is that I want to show a static image (the first frame of the 96 images) until a trigger arrives, and upon a trigger the rest 95 internal patterns to be shown at 240fps. After showing the sequence I want to go back to the first static image. Is this possible with the LightCrafter?

Thanks for your help.

Takeo

  • I've actually found this is possible by adding the first image to the last frame. As I press the Start button, the sequence is executed and remains at the last frame. As I press the Next button, this can be repeated. The problem is that this behavior is not consistent; sometimes the projection becomes dark after showing the last frame, sometimes it remains showing the last frame. How can this be fixed? I want it to consistently remain showing the last frame.

    Here is version info:
    Control Software: 4.0.1
    DM365: 4.0
    FPGA: 2.6.43
    MSP430: 2.7

Here is my Pattern Sequence setting:
    Bit Depth: 1
    Pattern Count: 96
    Pattern Type: Normal
    Play Once: yes
    Input Trigger: Command
    LED Select: Green
    Exposure: 0
    Trigger Period: 5000

    Thanks,

  • Hi Takeo,

I'm glad you were able to get something close to your use case working with the LightCrafter. Also, thanks for posting your version information. That's useful info for the community to help you through your issues.

I noticed that you are not using the latest version of the LightCrafter firmware and software bundle. You can find it midway down the LightCrafter product page (www.ti.com/.../dlplightcrafter). Please update to this version, try your test again and let us know your results.

You can take a look at this video (www.youtube.com/watch) as well, which describes how to update the firmware of the devices on the LightCrafter.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hi Clinton,

Thanks for your response. I will try to update the firmware, but which is the expected/correct behavior? Mirrors becoming off position after showing the sequence or remaining at the last frame? If becoming off is the right behavior and if firmware update ensures this behavior, it will not work for me. I need to either show the last frame or the first frame or a blank screen (all pixels on).

    Thanks,

    Takeo
