Empty cuvette PMMA spectrum

By using empty 10mm  PMMA cuvette, I try to get the absorption spectrum ( right).  I  tried to compare the absorption spectrum that shared by Chris in this forum (left). I got a different peak and spectra such as the maximum absorbance of mine is around 1.5 AU while the graph from Chris show around 2.5 AU. Does this happen because of certain effect and possibility? I have to verify it before proceed with the absorbance measurement for the sample.  Your respond is really appreciated;)

Yaa

  • Hello Yaa,

It looks like you have a polystyrene cuvette.  The peaks from a reference sample below match yours.  This is not a cuvette so the dimensions and absorbance values are slightly different. The part number I have for the NIRscan cuvettes was for PMMA.  I will double check the bill of materials.

    Chris

  • Thanks Chris.

By referring my spectrum above (on the right side), I used empty cuvette ships together with DLP NIRscan of  my purchase. As u said, it was UV –VIS PMMA right? I wonder why I got the difference spectrum when compare with your spectrum (on the left side). May I know does the spectrum  (on the left side) is belong to the PMMA empty cuvette by using DLP NIRscan ?

  • Yaa,

The spectrum on the left that I originally sent was for PMMA. Based on the spectrum comparison you have a polystyrene cuvette, not PMMA. The part number provided by the NIRscan supplier are for PMMA, but this seems to be incorrect. The part numbers are PMMA 759080D and Polystyrene 759070D.

  • Hello Chris.

So, does it mean I supposed to get PMMA 759080D provided with the NIR scan when purchased?
