The DLPDLCR2010EVM will not start

I have downloaded and installed the DLP LightCrafter Display 2010 EVM software and connected the DLPDLCR2010EVM as pr instructions.

In the Information window I can see that the connection is established and I can see when I switch the unit ON, but the projector does not start. When I click on "GET" I can see that some fields are being updated, but not all.

This is what I get:

DMD: Empty

Controller: DCPC3430

PMIC/LED Driver: Empty

EVM software: 0.0.0

Firmware: 0.0.0

This software: 2.0

There are no error indications.

To me it looks like the DMD and PMIC/LED Drive are lacking software. Please advice what I should do!

Hello,

I am sorry that you have issues with our DLPDLCR2010EVM. I would like to have some more information to be able to help you.

Can you please let me know if following LEDs are ON or OFF after turning SW1 into the ON position ?

D7 PROJ_ON
D6 RESETZ OFF
D5 HOST_IRQ

Please also check if the Flex cable is connected correctly to the engine and the flash card. See EVM Users Guide Figure 8.

D5 is ON
D6 is OFF
D7 is ON

The wide part of the Flex cable is ok. The smaller part of the Flex cable (marked R2) seems to be a bit loose into the white socket.

When I press GET the D10, D12 and D14 is blinking, but still no information comes up in the DMD field and that PMIC/LED field.

The first unit I bought runs version 1.o of the DLP Lightcrafter Display.

When I press GET, the controller gives me DLPC3430.

The first unit I bought gives me DLPC3435.

Hello Olav,

It looks like that your flash device is not programmed correctly. In the attachment you can find our flash image for the DLPDLCR2010EVM. Please connect the EVM to your laptop and open our GUI. On the Firmware page please load the attached image and update the Firmware. The GUI will ask you two questions:

Is the 2010/3010 EVM connected ?
If you want to continue since the flash image is for the 2010 EVM ?

Please answer both questions with yes and the update will start.

Hi there Nadine. We bought the same product last week.

Arrived yesterday and today, after installing the software and reading the instructions. We have similar issues :/

We powered the devices according to the power specs on the instructions.
PCB turned on and lights we're on as described previously by Olav.

D5 ON, D6 OFF, D7 ON.

All the others were flashing as described previously as well, but even tho the PCB looked turned on we NEVER saw any light coming out of the optical engine.

No light, no sample image no nothing... Even connected through USB to the GUI Software does not recognise the device. Its like we're plugging it to a dead source, but the lights show the contrary.

Could you please advice? Thanks!

Hello Francisco,

I am sorry to here that you have problems with the EVM. It is possible that the EVM got damaged during shipment.
You might want to check the connection of the flex cable to the DMD and the flash device, is it connected correctly ?

Can you also please check what the status of LED D16 is ?

TI has a 90 day return policy to return the EVM in case of any shipment damage.

Hi Nadine, thanks for the quick reply.

That light is not flashing. We actually stopped getting any feedback from the lights on the PCB :/

We saw on arrival that the white flex cable that goes on the optical module was loose. We tighten it up but still no feedback.

We were never able to see the Optical module show any light nor sample images :/

What is the policy for exchanging the product? We got it shipped to Santiago, Chile, but I'll be in the US next week. Maybe we can save some days.

Please advice.

Hello Francisco,

If D16 is not ON than the 3.3 V regulator got damaged. This can happen when plugging in a wrong power supply.

The EVM has an input power of 5V. Did you ensure that the right power supply has been used ?

The EVM came with a information sheet which has the regional technical support phone numbers on the last page. They will handle the replacement procedure.

Hi Nadine, thanks.

The ONE thing we made sure it was OK was the power supply. As this is the first DLP Solution we buy from TI we really didn't want to break it on try one so power was not the issue. We made sure we had a 5-V DC, 3.0 A power supply as detailed by EVM's user guide.

I'll reach out to those numbers for replacement. Thanks!

Can you please tell me what power supply to use? I have the DLPDLCR2010EVM. I purchased a 5v/3a adapter, but it wouldn't fit properly to the jack connector J12. Do we have exact specs somewhere for me to buy the exact plug side I need?

Thank you for the feedback.

We are not doing it because we are shipping our EVM's worldwide and different countries have different import regulations for power supplies.

We decided to recommend a power supply on DLPDLCR2010EVM Tool folder and let our customer pick the supply which is available in their country. I hope this makes it easier to understand.
