Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP3010, DLPC300

HI;

      I have a couple of questions related to the pico-projector development related questions. Hope one could answer them.

1. If one builds a projector similar to basic light crafter, how could one verify the operations of the DLP signal flow along with other electronics using a simulation tool. What are possible tools that available for the DLP purposes?
2. Can you please mention about the compatibility of USB and DLP controller. DLP controller expects 24 bit RGB and do we need a DVI receiver type processor in between USB interface (that takes the signal from an external source) and the DLP controller.
3. why is not a laser used in the lightcrafter? power consumption/dissipation, cost issues???
Thanks.
  • Hi Nishaanthan,

    Could you tell us more about your application so we can better address your questions? Do you already have a LightCrafter? Is it based on the DLP3000 or DLP3010?

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hi Clinton;

                    Thank you responding to my queries.

    We have a lightcrafter. It is DLP3000.

    Having used the lightcrafter, out-of-curiosity, we would like to see if I can make something similar may be with reduced functionalities. Therefore, I am trying to find out the basic mechanisms that I may require for this process.

    That is why I asked if a software is available with the necessary libraries to simulate the signal flow for the DLP and associated DSP and FPGA chips.

    If possible, please look at the other questions as well.

    Hoping to hear from you soon.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Nishaan,

    Thanks for the additional details. We do not have a system simulation tool available as you are describing. What functionality are you thinking about eliminating? Could you also provide some more insight into your pattern requirements? Does your application have a set of patterns it uses? If so, how many and what bit depth?

    In regards to your question about the RGB interface, you will need to provide the input signals to the DLPC300 controller in one of the supported formats, as specified in the datasheet (www.ti.com/.../dlpc300). Additionally, the DLPC300 itself does not support USB communication, it uses I2C.

    Using a laser illumination source is possible. However, if you are planning to modify the LightCrafter or use it's electronics as a reference, you will need to adjust the LED driver circuitry to account for these changes. Depending on the new current requirements you also may need active cooling. See this (e2e.ti.com/.../586969) post for more discussion on this topic.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hi Nishaan,

    I wanted to follow up. Did you see my post above?

    Thanks,
