3010EVM is not working?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC3438, DLPA2005

My 3010EVM is not working.

My PC could detect the display device via HDMI, but my optical engin is not turn on(no lighting).

Actally this happend after trying to extend the cable between optical engin and DMP board.

Unfortuantally the process is faild(the projection image is nothing and black)

and for now I reconnect the origin flex cable, the optical engin is no more working.

I'm not sure where the problems are.

Any Ideas? or Can I buy a new modual "DMP board part" or "optical engin part" only ?

  • Hello,

Yes, you are able to buy a new optical engine. Unfortunately we are not selling the display board separately but let's see if we can figure out what went wrong.

I have a view questions to be able to narrow the issue down.

Have you update the firmware or MSP430 code? If yes, can you please load the original software into the flash and program the MSP430 with the original program?

Can you please let me know if following LEDs D5, D6 and D7 are ON or OFF after turning the projector ON via ON/OFF switch?

    Thanks,

    Nadine

  • Thank you, Nadine

I had not updated the firmware.

LEDs status D5, D6 and D7 after turning the projector ON via ON/OFF switch  are :

    D5 : on

    D6 : off

    D7 : on

Below is the DLP LightCrafter Image after turning the projector ON, and I cannot get correct information via "Get Button"

    Thanks

  • Hello,

It looks like the DLPC3438 is not booting. This will be the case when there is no connection to the DMD or the flash software is corrupted. Can you please verify a good connection of the flex cable to the LightCrafter Display board? I would also reload the firmware just to ensure that nothing got corrupted.

Can you also measure the voltages on the test points VBIAS, VRST and VOFS after turning the switch to the ON position, please ? This will indicate that the DLPA2005 is working correctly.

    Thanks,

    Nadine

  • Checking connection of the flex cable to the LightCrafter Display board is a little difficult for me, unless I disassemble

    the "Light Engine"....

But I had measured the voltages on the test points after turning the switch to ON :

    VBIAS is 4.50V.

    VRST is 0.39V.

    VOFS is 4.49V.

For now after turning the switch to ON, I found that the staus of D5 is blinking continuely.

Then after 7 seconds , D5 is off.

    Thank you

  • Hello,

Can you please disconnect the flex cable from the Display board and remeasure VBIAS, VRST, VOFS after turning the switch ON ?

I still try to figure out if it is only a bad DMD connection or if the DLPA2005 got damaged too.

Have you reload the flash firmware ?

    Thanks,

    Nadine

  • Hello Nadine

    I disconnected the flex cable.

And I remeasure VBIAS, VRST, VOFS after turning the switch ON as below:

    VBIAS is 4.51V.

    VRST is 0.49V.

    VOFS is 4.51V.

I didn't reload the flash firmware.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

I would highly recommend reloading the flash firmware. If that does not help, it looks like that DLPA2005 is damaged.

I would like to go forward with following steps:

    •  Reload the flash firmware
    •  Measure VBIAS, VRST and VOFS voltages without the flex cable/DMD connected

    Thanks,

    Nadine

  • I tried the flow that you suggested.

    1. Reload the flash firmeware.(I backuped the image file before 3 months)

And now while updating the firmware ,it shows:

    It seems got error !

    2. I remeasured VBIAS, VRST and VOFS voltages without the flex cable/DMD connected.

    VBIAS is 4.51V.

    VRST is 0.49V.

    VOFS is 4.52V.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

Can you please retry to load the flash firmware? If necessary multiple times. The flash image is now corrupted and we can not identify any issues without a good flash load.

The VBIAS, VRST, VOFS voltages are correct in this case.

    Best regards,

    Nadine

  • I try to reload the image file for more than 8 times.

I also try to change different USB port , and I confirmed the power supply etc.

but all result is still the same.(it can't load image file sucessed). for now I also can't backup image file anymore.

the hardware configuration is like this :

    Any idea ?

  • Hello,

It could be that your flash image is not correct. Can you please provide an email address and I will send you a known good image to load into your flash ?

I am also wondering about your LED status on the attached image. It looks like the switch is ON position and D7 is in an OFF state. Is that correct or does the image is not showing it correctly ?

    Best regards,

    Nadine

  • Hello Nadine,
I had sent you my Email address via a private message. Do you see that ?
LED D7 is always ON when I plug the power.
But D7 is OFF when loading firmeware.
  • Hello Nadine

I'v got the image from your coworker . I still can't load image success.

All the loading situations are the same like this as before :

    Any ideas?

  • Hello,
LED D7 Proj_ON should be only ON when the power is connected and the switch is in the ON position otherwise it should be OFF.
Can you please clarify the status of D7 and measure on the flash device if 3.3V is supplied ?
    Thanks,Nadine
  • Hello Nadine.

I had confirmed that LED D7 Proj_ON is ON when the power is connected and the switch is in the ON position.

I measured the vcc pin on W25Q16DWSSIG is 3.4V.

And measuring the vcc pin on MSP430F2274IDAR is 1.8V.

The image file is ready for the serial flash memory "W25Q16DWSSIG" or it is for the flash MCU "MSP430F2274IDAR" ?

I guess that the image file is for serial flash memory "W25Q16DWSSIG" , right ?

Fortunately I update the firmeware success one time. But it is still no light in the light engine...

For now the hardware configuration is like bellow.

And I can't get or read all Informations by the "Get Button" like below ,even in Advanced tab.

    Any ideas?

  • Hello,

It looks like that there are too possible root causes for your problem. Assuming your flash load is ok and you still see the same behavior this leads to a bad DMD connection or your DLPA2005 is damaged.

In the configuration shown above are you still measuring at VOFS, VBIAS and VRST the voltages you measured before ? If yes, I would say your DLPA2005 is damaged. If you are measuring at VRST -14V, at VBIAS 18V and at VOFS 10V you have a problem with your DMD connection.

Can you replace the DLPA2005 ?

    Thanks,

    Nadine

  • Now,
    VOF is 4.49V.
    VBIAS is 4.51V.
    VRST is 0.38V.

I think the DLP2005 is damaged...
    Let me think about it...

    Thank you very much ~
  • I was resoldering some "pins of DLPA2005" and "incuctor L2".

FortunatlIy I can get informations correctly, like this(even in advanced tab can be read) :

But Light Engine is still no light...

I remeasured VOFS,VBIAS and VRST with two different conditions:

    (1) if I connected the Light Engine. VOFS=4.49V,VBIAS=4.51V and VRST=0.38V

    (2) if I disconnected the Light Engine. VOFS=9.915V , VBIAS=18.039V and VRST=-13.98V

Condition 2 seems correct. If it is possible that the DMD device is damaged?

Or what kind of reasons could cause this result ?

  • Hello,

Since the voltages are correct when the DMD is not connected I think it is very likely that the DMD or the flex cable got damaged. With your current setup you are bending the flex cable extremely have you tried to put the engine underneath the board and connect it again. It would be interesting to see if that makes a difference.

To go forward, I would recommend to buy a new eProtech engine and this should solve the problem. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks,

    Nadine
