LightCrafter 4500: Issues using the API after resetting the default LED voltage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC350

I have several LightCrafter 4500 modules and I am trying to add custom LEDs. I need to set the LED voltages lower than the out-of-the box default so as to not blow the LEDs. However, when I followed the steps to changing the defaults (page 42 of the documentation) the projector no longer works with the API. Also, I tried to restore the Defaults using the Default.ini file and the latest firmware file, and it still does not work when I try to control the projector using the API... Can someone please help me:

1. Restore a LightCrafter back to the factory settings in a way that it will work with the API.

2. Change the default voltage setting on the LEDs in a way that will work with the API.

Note: Not sure if I need to state this, but an out-of-the-box LightCrafter works great with the API, so the instructions for restoring it back to factory settings are clearly not complete.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Michael,

I'm taking a look into your issue. Could you confirm that you are just adjusting the LED current settings in your solution and trying to incorporate this into the FW? If you are making other changes, please let us know.

Can you also let us know the GUI and DLPC350 FW versions you are using?

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hi Clinton,

Thank you for helping. Yes, I'm adjusting the LED current settings in my solution and incorporating into the firmware. That is the only change that I need to make.

Also, I'm using 2.0 version of the GUI and version 2 of the DLPC350 firmware.

    Thanks so much,
    Mike
  • Hi Mike,

I created a custom .ini file with only the default LED current values lowered (everything else used the default values) and went through the steps as we indicate in the user's guide. This procedure worked for me. When the system resets, the LED current values from the .ini file I created are set.

Can you answer the following questions so we can better understand your setup?

    1. Have you made any modifications to the LightCrafter4500 yet? Are you using your custom LEDs?
    2. What do you mean when you say APIs?
      1. Are you controlling the board with the GUI?
      2. Have you written some custom SW?
    3. Have you made any other parameter changes that you are saving in your .ini file?
    4. With the default DLPC350 2.0.0 FW still loaded, did you try resetting the system and applying your .ini file to see if the parameters are updated correctly and the system still functions properly (i.e. other GUI commands still work and update the device)?

In regards to restoring the system to default, uploading the default 2.0.0 FW will remove the custom .ini file you bundled with the FW. Go to the 'Image / Firmware' tab, then the 'Firmware Upload' tab, browse to the default 2.0.0 FW and upload it.

    Thanks,

    Clinton

  • Hi Clinton,

Thank you for your reply. Let me see if I can answer your questions.

    1. No. I'm using the native, out-of-the-box system. (Other than trying to adjust the firmware)

    2. So, I've controlled the board with the GUI, but I also have a wrapper for the C API that I'm controlling through Matlab. This is what I need to work. Also, using the GUI, the projector works fine in Video Mode, but does not work in Pattern Mode. I need it to work in Pattern Mode...

    3. No. I changed the LED voltages and that is all. Also, I have tried to reset everything using the "Default.ini" file and it still doesn't work.

    4. I have tried resetting the system, but I have not reapplied the .ini file. Resetting the system does not work.

Thanks so much for your help, Clinton. I hope we can resolve this quickly.

    Best wishes,

    Mike

  • Hi Clinton,

I'm not sure if you've been able to make any progress on this, but I'm still not getting the LCR4500 to work in pattern mode. It seems like this might be a firmware issue with the latest version of the firmware. I wanted to test this hypothesis by using the resetting the projector with the 1.1 version of the GUI and firmware. I see that this version of the firmware is not available. Could I get a copy of the 1.1 firmware version so that I can test my idea? Thanks!

    Best wishes,

    Mike
