Can't upload rom to lightcrafter 4500. Checksum mismatch

Hi,

My name is Junling. Our lab has a lightcrafter 4500. we removed the light source part because we don't need it. Yesterday, lightcrafter was working. I applied default solution and could see a clear pattern on the DMD chip. Then, I tried to upgrade the firmware, but i failed, the error info. said "Checksum mismatch: Expected ******; Received *******" (note that every time I failed to upload the firmware, the expected and received numbers are different, so i use "****" to represent those numbers).  Now,  although the GUI can still connect to the lightcrafter, the GUI cannot recognize the firmware version. GUI erased the flash when I tried to upload the rom, but I also failed to upload the rom. Does it mean there is no rom in the lightcrafter? I am not sure how should I deal with this problem. The following is the screen print of the GUI. What should I do to fix it?

Best,

Junling

  • Somehow, I changed the computer and it works....

  • Hi Junling,

I'm glad you were able to resolve your problem. Could you let us know the differences between the two computers you used? Did you have to install the GUI and SW on the machine that worked? If so, did you install the SW from the web?

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hi Clinton,

The first computer i used is actually mac book. I used virtual machine to run windows 7 so that I can use the GUI. That might be the problem. Then, I switched to a normal windows laptop and it works.  I think there is one more thing for a new learner using DMD like me. When upload the firmware, we shouldn't directly upload the firmware in zip format. We should unzip the zip file and install it. Then, find the binary (****.bin) file in the install folder and upload it. That was also a mistake I made in the beginning.

    Best,

    Junling

  • Junling,

I use a MacBook with Windows 7 under Parallels. I have not had any issues running LightCrafter GUIs in Windows under Parallels on a MacBook. By the way, if you download QT, you can build the GUI for Mac.

If you find that the LightCrafter does not enumerate under windows, just disconnect and reconnect the LightCrafter. You can do this under the Parallels menu by selecting the external devices unchecking them and re-checking them. Or you can just unplug an replug the cable.

And yes, the binary needs to be downloaded as firmware update, not the zipped file.

    Best regards,
    Pedro
