So how to stream frames at 2880 Hz/fps?

The manual says Lightcrafter 4500 can stream at 2880 Hz refresh rate and fps in 1 bit mode and "external mode".

But I don't see any ports that are fast enough to send over 200 Mbytes of data each second.

Am I correct to assume it is done via the HDMI port and every 24 frames have to be grouped into 1 24 bit frame before sending via HDMI and the Lightcrafter board will decode it back into individual 24 1 bit frames?

Hi Ashot,

Yes, the HDMI input is fed through the TFP401 and into the 24-bit RGB interface of the DLPC350. This interface supports up to 120 Hz frame rate. So packing in 24 1-bit patterns into the video frames running at 120 Hz will yield the 2880 Hz pattern rate.

Great. Does it work like any other video projector accepting HDMI input though? I mean can we just set the mode to 1 bit, pattern rate to 2880, select the led color and just connect it to a GPU or play a video file on the PC?

Yes. That is correct.

Make sure GPU or PC is generating the packed 24 1-bit patterns frames in the order how you wanted i.e., the hardware is not repeating or dropping the frames. Also make sure any image processing in the hardware is turned-off i.e., it is not modifying the RGB 24-bit pixel values.

Can the "repeating and dropping"of frames be turned off as well? I haven't heard about these things before.

Hi Ashot,

My comment was to make sure the source side (video frame generator) there is no issues. I never intend to mention there is a feature available in the system that is responsible for "repeating and dropping" of frames. For example - if you are planning to use video player to send frames, now it becomes important that what kind of video player being used, does it performs any compression.
