[HELP] LC3000 - Incomplete MSP430 firmware upgrade, Now device keep restarting at 3rd boot screen.

Hi,

I tried to upgrade the MSP430 firmware v3.0 for my Lightcrafter3000 using the GUI software. However the operation was failed. I restarted the device but due to the incomplete firmware upgrade, the device stop at 3rd bootscreen and keep restarting. Since it cant be booted completely I could not use the GUI to connect anymore.

I think the MSP430 firmware in the device is broken. How do I fix the firmware using programming port? Or is there any workaround for this particular problem?

Please help me.

  • Hi,

I took a look into the sourcecode of MSP430, the  device keeps restarting because the system voltage was lower than LOW_SYS_VOLTAGE setting (therefore the RED led blinks in 5s on - 500ms off pattern). I have measured the voltage on sensing pin (P2.1), it was 1.19V which is definitely lower than the LOW_SYS_VOLTAGE (3.9V). But the device can boot upto 2/3 of the process so i think there is nothing wrong with the hardware or the voltages required to run the device. I figured out that the MSP430 could be programmed using the Spy-By-Wire interface which is wired to the program port on the lower board. Maybe i could use some advice on which programmer should I buy to reflash it.

Also I have another lightcrafter 3000 which I bricked by accidentally plugging 9V source. All the regulator chips was dead (7V max). Is there any replacement board that I could buy?.

Please TI engineers, at least give me a hint.

  • Hi Van,

Please see this post for some details on programming the MSP: e2e.ti.com/.../1430189

Unfortunately, we do not sell replacement boards.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
