TALP1000B Mirrors Fell off????

Hi,

I had recently purchased two TALP1000B Analog MEMS mirror through AVNET Express and when they came in, the mirror on one of the two units had already fallen off and the other fell off as soon as I picked it up and put it on it's side. I was handling it from the edge of the PCB. After failing to reposition the mirror back into the socket, I returned it for an RMA. However, I'd like to know if this is how delicate they are and how to mount it such that the mirror doesn't fall off.

Thanks

Anderson

  • Anderson,

The TALP1000B mirror hinges are robust to shocks of 500G but the silicon hinges are thin and can not withstand direct contact to the mirror. The rare earth magnets on the mirror are also very strong and will be attracted to ferromagnetic material such as iron or nickel containing tools; be sure to keep such tools at a distance of at least inch from the mirror. TI is also in the process of reviewing handling and re-packaging practices with it’s distribution partners to ensure the devices reach our customers in the same condition as they leave the TI factory.

  • Hello,

I have the same problem and was wondering if I can hang the mirror carefully back in myself or if I need to send it back.

    Many thanks in advance ,

    Sophie

  • Sophie,

Unfortunately, you cannot fix the mirror yourself. You need to send it back for a replacement.
