the spectrum has high noise after 1300nm

using another brand nir device, the spectrum is smooth and low noise. I want to know how to reduce the noise.

  • Hi user,

I do not see the images, but here are some tips on how to minimize noise when using the instrument. In a few of these, I refer to the NIRscan Nano User's Guide

First, ensure that the signal is maximized into the device:

    • The reflective module is designed to place the sample in contact with the window on the front of the device (see User's Guide, figure 1-4)
    • In certain cases, moving of the sample during the scan could cause issues. So for high quality scans, ensure the sample is stationary during the scan.

Next, there are several parameters which can be set on the NIRscan Nano EVM to tradeoff scan time, resolution, and noise:

    • Hadamard scans will typically have much lower noise than column scans, by increasing the signal at the detector. For most scans, Hadamard method is likely preferred for this reason.
    • Wider pattern widths will reduce noise by increasing the signal at the detector at the expense of lower resolution. For this reason, we recommend choosing a pattern width just a little bit better than the resolution you require for your scan.
    • Increasing the number of scans to average will reduce noise by time averaging.

These options and others are described in more detail in the User's Guide, section 3.1.1.

  • thanks for your reply, we place the sample far away from the window, this is the reason why there is so much noise.
