I am using TI's 3D scan reference design with Point Grey Flea3 camera and LCr 4500 projector. I am examining quality of the imaging system by inspecting point cloud of plane. One thing I am concerned is low-level characterization of the system. I mean it seems points are systematically zigzagging in small area.
To show this, after taking point cloud of flat background with the system, I fit the points with a plane by regression of z with x and y, and compute its residuals. Then displayed residuals in a small region ( 30mm x 1 mm in X x Y) by X. as following.
As you can see, there is systematic pattern in noises among close neighbor points. And I don't think this is coming from calibration. Could anybody tell me where this noise pattern comes from? Is there any way to remove this kind of noise from the system?
