Check function about DLPC3439 to DMD connection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4710, DLPC3439

Dear All,

If DMD flexible cable is not connected to the control board, LEDs are  not powered on. This suggests us that DMD control chip(DLPC3439) checks the normal(abnormal) connection to the DLP4710. Would you please describe the contents of its abnormal detection function?

Best regards,

Rossinag

  • Hello Rossinag,

During the DLPC3439 initialization process the DLPC3439 is reading the DMD device ID. If the controller is not able to read the DMD device ID or is reading a wrong DMD device ID the power up process will be stopped and the projector doesn't turn on.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Nadine.

    Thank you for your support.
For our test purpose, we would like to check the operation of LEDs without DMD connection. But we understand projector does not turn on without DMD connection. So is it possible to build such the test purpose DLPC3439 firmware by TI?
Or if there are any way to drive LEDs without DMD connection please let me know.

    Best regards,
    Rossinag
  • Hello Rossinag,

Unfortunately this can not be changed and is not supported in our firmware. Is there any specific reason why you would like to drive the LEDs without DMD connected ?

    Best regards,

    Nadine
  • Hello Nadine,

Thank you for your comment. I understand the supporting situation.
The specific reason seems to be for a test . This is all I know information now. If I could get more specific information I will let you know.

Meanwhile please let me ask next question.
Which signal lines would be used for the DMD device ID reading ?

    Best regards,
    Rossinag
  • Hello Rossinag,

We read the DMD Device ID over LS_RDATA.

Please communicate to your customer that they have to connect the DMD to power up correctly and to finish the initialization process. It is sufficient to just connect the DMD on a flex cable to the board. It doesn't have to be mounted in an optical engine.

    Best regards,

    Nadine
