Using external light source to illuminate DMD in DLP LightCrafter 4500

We currently have the DLP LightCrafter 4500 and would like to bypass the LEDs to use our own single-wavelength light source (a supercontinuum laser) through the projector to use in conjunction with DVI input.  Is it possible to illuminate the DMD with an external light source? If so, do you have any tutorials or technical advice (including safety or warranty concerns) that we could follow? Thank you!
