Highest Possible RGB refresh rate with DLP4710

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4710, DLPC3439

Hi I have a project for near eye HMD that will use dlp with LED as light source and I was considering evaluating the DLP4710 for our project however we have a non standard refresh rate requirement we need a minimum of 240hz rgb refresh rate but would prefer 480hz and yes there must be a good reason we want to do that :) I couldn't find yet details about max possible refresh rate with DLP4710 and if it cant handle that rate any other model that would be capable of handling it but must be full hd resolution and should be at affordable price range no more than $200 in 1k quantity...

  • the reason im asking because with the 2x DLPC3439 we are limited to a very puny refresh rate in fact it cant really achieve proper 120hz even just in 3d mode I require a much higher refresh rate cause of an experiment were doing with a newer light field concept HMD display what I would like to know is if this limitation is because of the controller only or can the DLP4710 with custom display controller achieve much higher refresh rates?
Or are there any tricks that may help, like for example lowering RGB color space to 666 = 18 bit color or even 15 bit color is there anyway to work around the refresh rate limitations?
  • Hello Rami,

Thank you for your interest in our DLP Technology. The frame rate is limited by our max. pixel clock of 150MHz in the DLPC3439 which results in 60Hz for a input resolution of 1920x1080. The DLP4710 DMD is not the limiting factor.
If you would like to achieve a higher frame the input resolution has to be reduced. Lowering the RGB color space wouldn't help since we are converting internally everything to 24bit again.

    Best regards,
    Nadine
  • Well seems I have to look for other option anything you can suggest that can handle 240hz + Im now actually starting to consider going for laser scanning Mirrors that can handle high refresh rates...
