Creating fine stripe pattern with LightCrafter4500

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC350, DLPC300

Hello everyone,

We are currently looking for a light projector for a structured light application, which will be used for the motion-tracking of small rodents.

Is it possible for the LightCrafter4500 to create a fine pattern with more than a 100 stripes, like in the image below?

(Image was created with a projector)

Thank you.

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for your question and welcome to the DLP Forums!

Are you asking if there is an automated way for the Lightcrafter to create this type of image? The Lighcrafter will display any .BMP file that you give it, so long as it is in the native resolution of 912 x 1140. I would recommend that you create whatever pattern you would like to see and upload it to the Lightcrafter to be displayed.

    Hope this answers your question,
    Paul
  • Hi Paul,

    thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately we do not have a LightCrafter4500 yet, we are still figuring out if it fits our requirements.

So is it possible to generate a fine striped pattern with the pattern generator tool from the software?
If so, what is the maximum number of stripes, that can be generated?

I also have some more questions in addition regarding the display frequency:

    1. How fast can we switch between different uploaded images to create a sequence?
    2. Is there a difference regarding the display frequency between a sequence of uploaded images and a sequence of generated patterns?

    Thank you for your help.
    cheers,

    Paul
  • The DLPC350 is the controller for the Lightcrafter 4500 and it doesn't have a pattern generator. To use the LCr4500, you'll need to upload whatever image you'd like to project. Did you find mention of a pattern generator tool somewhere?

In terms of speed, take a look at Table 4-1 in the user's guide. It will tell you for different bit depths how fast you can display a sequence.

If you'd like to use a device that has a pattern generator, the DLPC300 which is the controller for the Lightcrafter, does have this. Take a look at section 2.2.8 in the programmer's guide to see the details.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Paul,

Please have a look at our LC4500 with our PEM module:

This module emulates the methodology that the LightCrafter 3000 uses, namely the ability to program and send various sequence patterns and save them as unique solutions.

If your pattern data is fairly constant and well established, then your can create the pattern data offline and load the as BMP files into the DLPC350 flash memory using the GUI tool that TI provides.
