3D printer application using DLP4710

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4710, DLP5500

Hello  this is Gilwan.

I have a questions as below.

  1. Can we use DLP4710 for 3D printer application?
  2. If we apply UV 405nm, How about   window transmittance and reflectivity of DMD micro mirror?
  3. If we apply 405nm UV, what is the expected DLP4710 device life time?
  4.  I do not clearly understand the meaning of ILLuv (Illumination wavelength <400nm) which is in the recommended operating condition of DLP4710 manual. Would you please let me know the meaning of ILLuv?
  5. Is there any limitation of the maximum power of UV LED which can be applied to DMD?  If yes, what is the main reason?
  6.  New 4710 EVM Gen2  focus range looks  40 ~120inch compare to old 4710 EVM  focus range 5~120 inch.  Is there  any way we can apply  5 inch focus with  4710 EVM GEN2?

  • Hello Gilwan,

Thank you for your interest in our DLP Technology.

The DLP4710 is designed for display and video applications. We have specific chipsets for 3D applications which supports higher frame rates and are pixel accurate.

Have you looked at our Advanced Light Control - 3D Printing page under following link

    ?

Regarding the window transmittance I would like to you refer you to following document.

The DLP4710 DMD is designed for the visible light range which is between 400 and 700nm. In the visible light range the max. power is only limited by the thermal specification.

Going below 400nm which would be the ultraviolet light range which is between 320 and 400nm the max. power is limited to 0.68 mW/cm2. This is shown in the ILLuv spec.

The focus range is depended on the optical engine design. You would have to select a different optical engine which is designed for a focus range of 5 ~120 inch.

We warrant our device for 1 year when operated according to our datasheet.

    Best regards,

    Nadine

  • Dear Nadine,
    Thank you for your answer.
I understand DLP4710 is for display and video application.
We have a experience to develop machine vision application using DLP5500 and DLP6500 .
And I am communicating with Sanjeev and Michael for ALC product.
I am considring to develop low cost DLP printer using DLP4710 since our DLP printer application is not required high frame rate .

    1. I am considering to use 3W 405nm UV LED. it will be OK?
    2. Can you let me know the information( Company name , contact person and e-mail...) of 5" focus range projection lens and LED +DMD + optics module suuplier for Lightcrafter Dislpay4710 or 4710EVM GEN2?

Can you let me know your e-mail for further questions?

  • Hello Gilwan,

We used for our DLP LightCrafter Display 4710 EVM the optical engine manufacture Qisda and for the DLP LightCrafter Display 4710 EVM-Gen2 we are using Young Optics.

The optical engine manufactures we are currently working with a listed on following page:

I double checked the Qisda optical engine spec and in the focusable screen size is 30" ~100". Since the optics has been designed for display application this seems to be more reasonable. You might want to get in contact with these optical engine manufactures and discuss an optical engine design which fit your needs.

For 405nm we specify in the datasheet only a thermal limitation. Please ensure that you are staying inside the thermal spec of the DMD. Please also ensure that you are not going below 400nm

    Best regards,

    Nadine
