DLPC150: Pattern Generation Mode

Part Number: DLPC150
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4500NIR, DLPC350, DLP2010NIR, DLP4500, DLP2010

Hello,

I am trying to better understand "Pattern Generation Mode" as referenced in the DLPC150 product PDF section 8.1. It seems you can achieve much higher frame rates in this mode but there is little to no information regarding pattern generation mode.

Is "Pattern Generation Mode" actually "Test Pattern Generator Mode" as seen in the DLPC150 Programmer's Guide using predefined patterns stored on the device?

Thanks,

Cole

  • After further reading section 8 of the DLPC150 shows that "Pattern Generation Mode" is actually using the 24-bit parallel input with 24-bit RBG888 @ 2880 Hz. The programming manual has not information on how to set "Pattern Generation Mode". Could someone shed more light on how this works, how to program the DLPC150 into this mode, and share if the triggering functionality is the same as seen in 2.5.3 or 2.5.4 of the DLPC150 Programmer's Guide?

    Thanks

  • Hi Cole,

Thanks for your question - if you could give me a little time to look into this so that I make sure you get the right information, that would be appreciated.

    Best,
    Paul
  • Hi Cole,

I should have an answer for you today, but I wanted to ask a different question - does your system already use the DLP2010NIR or are you just evaluating its use in a project? It might be worth taking a look at the DLPC350 and DLP4500NIR as they have more robust pattern display abilities.

  • Hi Paul,

We are evaluating for a project. I am trying to utilize the TRP (smaller sensor, orthogonal mirror structure) for the project and have avoided DLPC350 and DLP4500.

    Thanks,

    Cole

  • Hello Cole,

Pattern Generation Mode is a little misleading in that this mode does not generate patterns, but could be more accurately be described as Pattern Display Mode.

There are Test Patterns that can be displayed as described in §2.1.4 of the DPC150 Programmer’s Guide.  However the modes described in §8.1 of the data sheet are as you have surmised the modes described in §2.5 Display Sequences of the DPC150 Programmer’s Guide.  These are binary patterns that are packed into a 24-bit RGB888 image (or a 16-bit RGB565 image), but displayed as individual binary patterns as described in the referenced section.  The patterns are not generated by the DLPC150, but rather are displayed as binary patterns

Sorry for the confusion.  What do you need the system to actually do?

    Fizix

  • Hello Fizix,

I am looking to do structured light scanning. The smaller sensor of the TRP, orthogonal pixel format and ability to do VIS and NIR with DLP2010/DLP2010NIR DMD with single controller/driver board design has it's benefits.

Could I ask -- Does the DLPC150 work for both the DLP2010 and the DLP2010NIR? Spec sheet for DLPC150 states it does. Web page for DLPC150 only lists DLP2010NIR. I just wanted to double check.

    Thanks,
    Cole
