DLP4500: Unexpected result "Pattern Sequence mode" with HDMI Video Port

Part Number: DLP4500

Hello,

I have DLP 4500 and I am trying to use "Pattern Sequence" mode using HDMI as input as next post explains, but the process is for GUI version 1.2 and I am using version 3.0.1

http://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp__mems_micro-electro-mechanical_systems/advanced_light_control/f/924/p/320016/1246972

The problem is when I project the sequence some strange distortion appears at the bottom of the image. I have no problem projecting sequence from flash and no problem with HDMI in video mode. The problem only appears when I use both of them together.

DLP Pattern Sequence Configuration

Do you know what is wrong? Is this a bug? I have been thinking it is a resolution problem but I can't find a solution.

Thanks.

  • Hi Samuel,

Thanks for your question and welcome to the DLP forums. I'm sorry that you're having difficulty with pattern sequence mode over video input. Have you taken a look at the user's guide for the Lightcrafter 4500? It covers the new version of the GUI and should be able to answer your questions: www.ti.com/.../dlpu011e.pdf

Otherwise, if you have further questions, just let me know in detail what you're having trouble with and I can walk you through it.

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • Hi Samuel,

Please disregard my previous answer - I believe I saw your post before you had a chance to edit it and include more information.

Are you streaming that pattern over HDMI from a video generator or your computer? Or is that pattern being stored in flash?

Sometimes, what will cause things like you're seeing is exposure issues and video source configuration issues. If you're able to provide a little more detail on this, I'll be able to help.

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • Hi Paul,

    Thanks for your answer.

I am using a Raspberry Pi and I think I have found the problem. The output resolution must be 912x1140 (DMD resolution) because I changed it in my computer (extended screen -> resolution to 912x1140) and it worked.

Now I am working on fixing that for the RPI, but it is a different forum ;)

EDIT: The resolution was the problem. To fix it using a RPIv3 add a custom mode "hdmi_cvt" in /boot/config.txt

    Best,
    Sam
