DLP in Binary

I would like to run a DLP device as binary only (no gray scale).  In such an application, what is the fastest update/frame rate available?

  • Hi VDO,

The frame rate is dependent on the type of kit/chipset and DMD used. What is your application? Are you interested in using a particular kit?

  • The newest Discovery kit is the Discovery 4000.  It is capable of around 32K binary frames a second on the XGA DMD and 24K on the 1080p DMD.  The bigger issue is how to source the data.  The D4000 comes with Explorer software that is capable of sourcing 10-100 binary fps over USB.

There is a 3rd party add-on board called the ALP4 high-speed, that can preload binary sequence into the onboard RAM of the D4000 and run these sequence from RAM at rates up to 10,989 fps on the XGA and 5617 on the 1080p.

Another option would be to developed a custom interface, There are high speed connectors on the D4000 for this.

  • Thanks.

What happens if I run system clocks at a higher rate than is nominally specified?

  • Hello VDO,

The system was tested at the clock rate defined in the datasheet which can be found online at: www.dlpdiscovery.com
No performance metrics are given outside of the spec
