3D image projecting - How to??

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP

Hi,

I have a question about the Developement Kit.

I want to make an 3D projector that will be able to send data from an PC and the DMD will project the DLP with about 2500 - 3000 hz.

I think i make it so that at first i dońt need colours - this makes the display 3 times faster.

And now my questions are:

- can i program the DMD so - i send an image from the PC to the DMD and the DMD doesent display it as one 3 colour frame but uses the mirrors to display the image faster?

- this goes to the next question - can i control the DLP mirrors with the preprogrammed DMD seperately ? We have 24 bit color - a would use just at the start 1 bit - in that case can i make the display speed more faster.

Can I purchase an Develpoer Kit with a lamp and lens or is it easier to purchase an projector and install in it the Developer Kit??

Thanks

P.S. Happy New Year!!!

  • Hello and Happy New Year,

I have attached a block diagram of the Discovery 4000 Starter Kit.  It is possible to drive the DMD with binary patterns at 3000 Hz (actually much higher), however, the main obstacle is getting data from the PC to the DLP chips (DMD, DDC4000, & DAD2000).  As you point out, the PC will output 24 bit data at some regular frame rate standard like 60Hz, 85Hz, etc...  Do you already have a scheme for reformatting the data into binary frames of data at 3000Hz?  If so, then I think you can modify the Apps FPGA code (Xilinx Virtex 5) and use one of the EXP ports available on the D4000 starter kit.

If you have not already developed such a scheme or do not have the engineer time available to do so, then are a couple of possibilities that I am aware of:

    1. One of the DLP Distributors - Vialux - has an "ALP high speed controller suite" (http://www.vialux.de/ehalpcontr.htm).  This controller module will allow you to store many Binary frame into the on-board memory of the DLP starter kit, and then these can be displayed on the DLP at very high speeds (>13000 fps).  There current ALP system is based on the Discovery 3000 product.

    2. Another company has successfully demonstrated a 3D imaging system is Fakespace Labs.  They have developed a Multiuse Light Engine Projector (MULE) Research tool that I believe will allow you to transmit binary frames of data into a DLP projector.  http://www.fakespacelabs.com/tools.html   This research tool may be available for your use.

    3.  Additionally other DLP Distributors may also have other options available.  You can find contacts here: http://focus.ti.com/dlpdmd/docs/dlpdiscovery.tsp?sectionId=60&tabId=2271

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm looking for an solutions with these companys - i will response later. :)

  • Great!  Reply if you have more questions.

  • Hi Jacek,

It has been a long time for this subject but is there any update that can you share with us?

    Thank you,
