DLP6500FYE: DMD power supply design and flex cable selection

Part Number: DLP6500FYE

HI Fizix

The 4500EVM connects the power supply to the control board and connects to the DMD board via flex cable. 6500EVM to power supply design on the DMD Board, which increases the DMD Board area. 6500FLY power supply design can refer to the 4500EVM design?

Another: flex cable used on the 6500EVM, which is too large for our application. Do you have a recommendation or suggestion for flex cable selection?

  • Hello again Byron,

It is perfectly acceptable to move the power supply off of the DMD board -- with some caveats.  You need to make sure to have sufficient bulk capacitance to prevent any voltage droop during operation at full speed.  One you have a design you should test and measure at the DMD board to be sure that the voltage is not experience any droop.

Regarding the flex cable, it is not required to use the flex cable.  There are quite a few companies that make LVDS cables (not specifically for this application) that customers have used.  The main thing is that it must have sufficient signal integrity for the LVDS signals at the speed being run over the controller to DMD bus.  It does not even have to be a flex cable.

    I hope this helps.
