DLP9000: Difference Between Firmware version 2, version 2.1.1 and version 3

Part Number: DLP9000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900

Hi all,

I'm using the DLP® LightCrafter™ 9000 Evaluation Module and I'm used to upload firmware going to the procedure present in the manual using GUI and FW version 2.0.0. I've seen that TI actually released newer versions of GUI and FW (2.1.1 and 3.0).

I tried to upload the same images and to control the DMD using versions 2.1.1 and 3.0, but the DMD is behaving quite differently than running it with version 2.0.0.

Could you please share the changes between the different FW versions?

Best,

  • Hello Mirco,

I am sorry that some of the terminology is a little confusing.

On the DLPLCR9000EVM page in the "Available Versions" section there is this table:

Which lists "Firmware and Software Bundle" - The "firmware" here is a bootloader & FPGA firmware associated with that software.

If you navigate to the install directory after you install this package [default: C:\Texas Instruments-DLP\DLPC900REF-SW-3.0.0] there is a DLPC900REF_SW_Bundle_Readme.txt file that tells you what is contained.  In each of those directories there is a readme that tells about that file.

For the software functionality you will need the latest GUI user Guide from that page: http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/dlpu028

However, for the DLPC900 controller firmware (master and slave images) you will need to go down to the "Related Products" section and follow the "DLPC900 Configuration and Support Firmware link" which will take you here: http://www.ti.com/tool/dlpr900.  On that page under "Order Now" there are versions 3 and 4 of the "Configuration and Support Firmware".

If you install one of these [default: C:\Texas Instruments-DLP\DLPR900PROM-3.0.0\DLPR900PROM-9000-vn.0.0 - where n is 3 or 4] you will find a readme that lists all of the features introduced with each new version of the "Configuration and Support Firmware"

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi Fizix,

thank you for the answer, acutally I have another question: what's the difference between DMD Type A and Type B (which they should use respectevely ver 3 and ver 4).

    Thanks,
  • Hello Mirco,

Rev B DMDs are the latest production series DMDs. If you use version 4 then it is compatible with both DMD revisions.

You should NOT use version 3 with revision B DMDs.

Please see the DLPC900 data sheet page 29 for an explanation of revision B DMD requirements. --> http://www.ti.com/lit/gpn/dlp9000
