Starterware/DLPLCR6500EVM: DLI LCR6500 Settings for running in video mode

Part Number: DLPLCR6500EVM

Tool/software: Starterware

I have a DLI LCR6500  module which I tested in a pattern on the fly mode. But I could not able to run it in video mode or video pattern mode.

Please let me know what are the preliminary settings do I need to configure it in TI GUI to make it work in video mode?

Is HDMI cable connection is compulsory for running it in video mode?

What are all other settings need to be configured?

  • Hello Hari,

Could you please make screen captures of all of the setup screens and how you have connected everything?

Also have you uploaded the patterns to memory?

  • Hi Fizix,

I connected LCR6500 via USB & HDMI of my PC graphic card ( PC monitor is also connected to DVI port of graphic card)'

the following are the screen shots of TIs GUI,

In pattern on the fly mode, I am loading .bmp images to the GUI and giving the on time and off time the projection is happening in the pattern on the fly mode.

But I would like to run this in video mode, I could not able to do that. if put into display mode it is projecting the current display monitor, is it correct but i connected via HDMI, if i select HDMI it is projecting nothing.

  • Hello Hari,

If you make a pattern sequence you can only use Pre-stored Pattern Mode or Pattern On-The-Fly Mode.

Video and Video mode must be driven by sending the images as a video stream on HDMI/DisplayPort.  In Video Pattern Mode you tell the GUI how to re-interpret the bitplanes of the RGB 24 bit stream (8 bits per R, G, & B).  You can reinterpret them as 6 4-bit grayscale images or as 24 1-bit images, or 4 6-bit images.  You do not have to use all the bits, so you could have 4 5-bit images, etc . . .

To display your video you must do into Video pattern mode and build this by adding the information there:  See the DLP® LightCrafter™ 6500 and 9000 Evaluation Module (EVM) User's Guide:

http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/dlpu028c/dlpu028c.pdf  § 3.6.4 Creating a Pattern Sequence in Video Pattern Mode starting on page 35.

This will tell the Video Pattern Mode how to interpret the bitplanes for display.  If you have nothing there, then nothing will display.

    I hope this helps.
