DLP3000: DLP3000 chip appears more dead spots

Part Number: DLP3000

Hello sir!
I would like to introduce, my name is Ngoc Tu, I work at the Photonics Center and I am a researcher. I would like to ask you about my problem. I have a kit light crafter 3000 bought from EKB, the more than a year my circuit has problems with the IC switch power from 5v -> 3.3V, I bought components from TI to replace but not have resulted. I used an external converter circuit replacing the switch from 5v3.3v. Initially light crafter 3000 worked well, but some time later came a lot of dead pixels. Today, I conducted the test for 3 hours light crafter 3000 operating, I found that the DLP3000 chip appears more dead spots (with attached images). I would like to ask you what is the cause of this problem, can I buy a replacement DLP3000 chip and the problem of dead pixel still appear? (I also bought a DLP4500 kit from TI) Thank you for your help. (My email: ngoctu2312@gmail.com)

  • Hi Ngoc Tu,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the DLP forums. Sorry that you've been having trouble with your DLP3000 kit. From what you've described, it is difficult for me to say what has gone wrong to cause the pixel failures on the DMD. If you had trouble with your kit, I would recommend that contact EKB and see if they can help you make it right, as they are the producers of that module.

Perhaps you can be a little more specific about what your issue with the 5 to 3.3V power IC was? Which device are we talking about? Like I said, hard for me to say for sure, but it is possible that in switching to an external power IC that power sequencing on the unit was messed up, leading to broken pixels.

You could buy a new DLP3000 here: www.ti.com/.../samplebuy
I don't know if I would risk another DMD on your current setup until I understand a little better what changes were made to your system.

  • Thanks to Paul Goedeke for the answer. I know it is difficult to predict the cause of the problem. Maybe I still have to risk a new DMD chip. I would like to ask more questions, if I wanted to buy a light crafter 3000 driver board instead of a broken electronic circuit, would the company provide it?

Last time the IC U15 was broken and I bought 2 new ICs, after replacing there was no 3.3v and I bought the circuit as shown below to connect to the general output P3P3V and GND, I think this is normal and no matter what? So the cause of DMD corruption is still unknown!

  • Hi Ngoc Tu,

Unfortunately we don't sell components of the Lightcrafter, only the whole unit.
