DLPLCR4500EVM: DLPLCR4500EVM

Part Number: DLPLCR4500EVM

I have some problem from the lightcrafter 4500 which we buy it in March.

1. The projection sreen is presented red fragment.(It must be "IT" mark with white background.)

2. .D4 LED always be red light .

3. MPU is over hot

4. USB port is broken.

We just use it with grasshopper of official website to do 3D scanning. (We burned the firmware.)

  • Hi User,

Welcome to the DLP forums and thank you for your question and I'm sorry that you're having difficulties with your Lightcrafter. It sure sounds like your Lightcrafter isn't performing as expected. A few questions for you:

    * What type of power supply are you using with the EVM?
    * Has the unit worked properly in the past?
    * Have you modified the unit?
    * Has the EVM been damaged in any way?

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

We use the recommend power supply in the datasheet which is Digi-Key part number 62-1186-ND.

The unit has worked properly in the past.

We just take off four screw in the picture which is marked. And we burned the firmware which is provided from official website.

Then we didn't do anything else.

    Thanks.

  • Can I ask why you removed the screws? Did the flex cable underneath the board stay attached?

When you say the USB is broken, does that mean physically? Or that you cannot connect to the computer?

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • Hi,

Because we want to see the light engine to consider how to change the backlight LED, we remove the screws.

We think the flex cable underneath the board stay attached, because we find the latch to lock it.

Our USB port cannot connect to the computer. sorry for not clearly.

    Thanks.

  • What I can recommend that is that you try to flash the LCr4500 and reload the software. Perhaps something got corrupted which is causing this issue.

    Hope that helps,

  • Hi,

As mentioned before, we are unable to reload the software (firmware) through USB interface.
As to JTAG, because we don't have a JTAG interface in our lab, could we just send it back to you?
Besides, the last firmware we load was the official one TI provided, and it works fine until late June, so it's weird if the reason is on the firmware?

    Thank you.

  • Hi User,

The instruction document that I provided details what parts you need to order to make the JTAG interface and reflash the device. I'm not exactly sure what's happened, but that is the best next step. Unfortunately, TI doesn't provide any repair services.

If the device was working well until June, then something must have happened - these devices are ESD sensitive so perhaps in handling the flash got corrupted. Your board appears to have no physical damage.

One thing you might check is for accidental shorts. When you put the screws back, they where tightened all the way down? No wires pinched in them? The heating behavior you describe indicates some sort of short condition. If you have a bench power supply or DMM you could hook up the Lightcrafter to that and take a reading of how much current the device is pulling. That would give me a good sense of what is going on.
