DLPLCR6500EVM: Computer no longer recognizing DLP; Image projected on DMD is frozen

Part Number: DLPLCR6500EVM

Hello,

In the middle of using the DLP, the image projected on the DMD froze and was no longer being toggled to the image that was supposed to be projected next.

I was going to upload the most updated firmware on the DLP in order to reset the DLP and fix the frozen image issue however, the computer is no longer recognizing the DLP through the USB connection and on the GUI, it just says "Disconnected" and therefore, I am unable to upload the most up-to-date firmware.

We have been using the DLP consistently for over 8 months now and nothing has changed in the way the DLP is used (no additional watts of power provided, same settings, etc).

We're not sure what we should be doing next?

Thanks

  • Hi, Dipika. There may be a few steps to try, if you haven't already, to separate a potential PC issue from the EVM/firmware functionality.

I recommend first powering down the computer, disconnecting all cables and power from the EVM. Leave it off for a full couple of minutes, and then power back up and reconnect. If there is no change, then also try using the EVM with another PC. Also be sure to try more than one USB port and USB cable. If the EVM behaves the same regardless of power cycling and independent of the PC and USB connectivity, then next we can further debug the hardware.

You mentioned wanting to update the firmware. What version of the GUI and firmware are you using today, and what versions do you want to update to?
  • Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

I disconnected everything, left it off for a few minutes and then reconnected using the port that was being used previously as well as a different port. I also tried using a different cable. This did not make any difference. I then tried this again with another computer and again, this did not make any difference.

Currently, I am using the 3.0.0 release of the DLP LightCrafter 6500 & DLP LightCrafter 9000 Software Bundle which has version 3.0.0 for the GUI for Windows and version 1 for JTAG Flash Programmer, EDID Configuration, and Firmware for the FPGA. I hadn't looked into updated versions as of yet as I wasn't able to even connect the DLP but my plan was to update to the latest version and if the latest version was already on the device, reinstall it.

    Thanks,
    Dipika
  • Dipika,

The versions you listed are the latest posted online.  Another way to reprogram the firmware in case some kind of corruption has happened, is to use JTAG.  Page 50 of the EVM user manual talks about how to go about doing it this way.
