DLP4500: can not function in video mode

Part Number: DLP4500

Hi,
I'm trying to use the DLP4500 in video mode just like a second PC monitor. It is functioning well in "internal test pattern" mode and "images from flash" mode, but it keeps showing the same screen in "parallel RGB mode". Here is what I have done:
1. Updated the software and the firmware to 3.1.0;
2. In Windows display settings I set the DLP4500 to be my second monitor. I tested extension/duplicate mode;
3. I unplugged the monitor and connected the DLP4500 only to the PC;
4. Plug the HDMI cable without USB cable;
but none of the worked. Can anyone help me with troubleshooting?
And my operating system is Windows 10.
Thank you,
Lin Wang

  • Hello Lin,

    Thanks for all of the information. I'd like to clarify a couple of your statements to make sure I understand them. Does the extended/duplicate mode work successfully? Do you only have the issue when you try to setup the projector, unplug HDMI and USB, detach primary monitor, and then reattach the HDMI cable to the projector. Could I also get a screenshot of your GUI under video mode to make sure everything looks okay?

    Thanks,

    Kyle

  • Dear Kyle,

    Thank you for your reply, I am now using a laptop to drive the DLP.

    1. Yes, when I use an AOC monitor, the extended/duplicate mode work successfully with HDMI cable.

    2. When I tired to set the DLP as a extend monitor, it can not stream my computer's desktop in "Parallel RGB mode", but it functioning well in "internal test pattern" mode and "images from flash" mode, such as it can project a 'checkboard' in "internal test pattern" mode.

    3. Here is the screenshot of GUI software.

    Thank you !

  • Hello Lin,

    So you have never been able to extend your monitor using the 4500 EVM in any configuration?

    Could you try setting the Cropped area to the same value as display area? Also did you hit "Get Video Info" on that screenshot?

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Dear Kyle,

    As I recall, when I firstly pluged the HDMI to my computer(means this laptop was never connected the DLP either via HDMI nor USB cable, and without the 4500 GUI), the DLP streamed my destop directly, but it can not functioning well any more after that time. So I think it proper to say I have never been able to extend your monitor using the 4500 EVM in any configuration.

    And here is the screenshot after hitting the  "Get Video Info" button.

    Thank you!

  • Hello Lin,

    Sorry you are still having this issue. I noticed your image shows that the signal status of the video is processing which means the VSYNC signal has not yet been detected. Perhaps you could try another HDMI cable and/or another HDMI source to see if either of those are the issue. If that doesn't work perhaps you could try reflashing the firmware of the EVM. Also like I mentioned above ensure the Cropped area is 1280 x 800.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Dear Kyle,

    If the DLP works successfully in video mode, what is the right 'Singal Status' should be ? And how can I set up the 'Cropped area' option to 1280*800?

    Set like this and press the 'SET' button?

    Thank you,

    Lin Wang

  • Hello Lin,

    Yes, that is how you set the cropped area. And here is a screenshot of my GUI when it is operating correctly.

    Thanks,

    Kyle

  • Dear Kyle,
    Thank you, I am going to replace my HDMI cable and try it again.
    Lin Wang
  • Let me know if that ends up working.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hello Lin,

    Hopefully that ended up working. If not let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Dear Kyle,
    Thank you for your concerning, unfortunately the device still can not stream the desktop after replacing the HDMI cable. I think it might be some iaaues in the chip board.
    Thanks,
    Lin Wang
  • Hello Lin,

    Sorry to hear. Have you tried another input source other than the computer? If that doesn't work and you haven't had the board for long perhaps you could contact the seller about a replacement board to see if that's the issue.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
