LightCommander can't work

Hi,

I got the LightCommander a few days ago.  It could't project any image, when I turned on the power. The "POWER" LED and "SW_RESET_COMPLETE" LED on the control board were light. The light source wasn't light and I couldn't observe any image on DMD. The "LED_nLAPLIT" and "LED_EN" were high level. Wave form could be observed at "STROBE0", "STROBE1","STROBE2", and "STROBE4". The voltage of "DAD_VRST", "DAD_VBIAS", "VCC_DMD_OFF" was 0V. "DAD_nIRQ" was high level. The software can communicate with the controller. What's wrong with the kit?

  • Hi Yong Li,

Based on your description, I suspect the Light Commander is initializing properly except for the LED driver.  This could be a connection problem between the controller board and the LED driver or a problem with the LEDs themselves.  I will investigate further today and get back to you to confirm my answer and hopefully provide you with additional information.

    Regards,

    Raul

  • I'm having the same issue. The projector turns on and the fans run, and Windows can recognize it as an external display, but there is no light. Could it be an electricity issue? I'm using 230VAC 50hz.

  • Hello Peter,

Your input specifications should not be a problem since the kit can operate in the following range: 88-264 VAC, 47-63 Hz.

I informed Logic PD, manufacturer of the Light Commander kit, about your 'out of the box' problem and they should be able to assist you further.

    Regards,

    Raul

  • Something I would like you to try is to connect to the kit with the USB cable and start the LightCommander control software.  Make sure the status in the upper right hand corner of the control software window shows that the kit is connected.  In the control bar, Click on "tools"  and then on "command line window..."  When the window opens, enter or paste the line Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

    $L2.5 DLP_FlashProgram_EraseParallelFlash 0, 128

This will clear anything in memory that keeps the LEDs from coming on.  Turn the LightCommander off, disconnect the USB cable, and then turn the unit back on - you should see a default pattern.

If you still do not see any pattern, turn off the power and remove the top cover of the unit (it sounds like you may have already done that.)  Verify that connections to the control board are solid.  Turn the unit back on and if you still don't have light we will work from there.

  • The LightCommander control software says that the projector is connected (and can tell the state of the park/run switch). Entering "$L2.5 DLP_FlashProgram_EraseParallelFlash 0, 128" doesn't give an error message, but the light is still not on. Turning off and on isn't helping either.

I disconnected and reconnected everything on the controller board (2-pin power, 2-pin fan connection, ~20 pin black LED LIGHT SOURCE wires, and the slot connector on the bottom). There is still no light.

  • Hi Pat,

I did the same thing as Peter has done. The Kit still didn't work. I remembered that the report of sofware is like

at the first time it run.    The report changes to

after I pressed the "Program Flash" button on the menu.  Now, the report changed back to the first status after I excuted the command "$L2.5 DLP_FlashProgram_EraseParallelFlash 0, 128". I guess it maybe probles of controller. The voltage level of DLPA200 and LED SPI interface are very diferent from the reference.

  • Yong and Peter,

I am sorry that each of you are experiencing issues with the kit.

Please contact the source that you purchased your kit from to have them assist you.  They should be able to either help you solve the issue or get it fixed.

  • Hi Yong - I have been working with Peter through the Logic  help desk and had him do one more thing.  The instructions to follow are:

    Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

With the kit powered on, remove the Nikon lens and look through the lens opening at the DMD chip to see if there is a checkerboard pattern present on the DMD surface. Toggle the Run/Park switch back and forth to see if the checkerboard appears and disappears. Let me know the result. Thanks.

If nothing results from the test, I will have you return the unit.  Have you created an account and registered the kit on the Logic website?  You may want to do that and let me know when you've had a chance to run through the procedure above.   Thanks.

  • Hi Pat,

I have run through the procedure and could not see anything.  I have created an account and registered the kit on the Logic website.

  • I am experiencing the same problem and just wondering how this was resolved.  I have registered the product with LogicPD and submitted my problem to them.

  • LogicPD RMAed my kit, and it worked fine when it came back. Their tech support should lead you through the steps.

  • My students and I experienced a very strange problem with the DLP LightCommander: It occasionally stopped working no matter what try. However, it will come back normal again after waiting for a few hours, and sometimes about an hour. We did not do anything fancy, just load a few binary pictures and let the projector run naturally.

We tried to contact LogicPD technical support, but they were not responding to our email requests at all unless we would like to pay for them (This is ridiculous!). We have waited for about a month without getting anything back from them. This is really frustrating since sometimes during an experiment, the projector suddenly stopped functioning, which messed up all our previous experiments.

My system was purchased in this late Jan, and we started use it in May. We have such a problem from the first day of use. Unfortunately, we are out of their warranty period, which states that they are only responsible for 30 days (one month), this is crazy! I understand their technicians are busy but I was very disappointed by their attitude towards their customer whom they seems not willing to help at all. I am basically out of luck using this product if I could not fix the problems by myself.

I am just wondering whether anyone here has an idea on how to fix this problem by ourselves. Any suggestions or comments would be highly appreciated!

As a kind message to those who are considering buy this product: you need to be extremely careful, because you must ensure that you could do full-testing within 30 days, otherwise, you may end up the same situation as myself: wasting money and time to fix those problems for them.
