Hi TI Experts,


I have customer that would like to do a project on image projection.

> Is DLP3000 able to perform image projection on glass or windscreen?

> They would like to use an RGB laser module for the prototype as opposed to LED for lighting.

Is it possible to replace the LED to Laser module for DLP3000?

If not - do you have a component to recommend?

> Can they make any source code/firmware changes to the DMD?

> Can the DLP accept one image input at a time instead of steady stream of input video?

> What is the background that the DLP projected? Is it black light or transparent?

    Hi,
    DLPC300/DLP3000 is meant for visible projection; for windscreen or glass projection they need to have special screen on the windscreen, are you planning to build it for after market hud application?

    It is still in discussion whether it is for OEM automotive or after market hub application.

    Hi Teach Me,
    I presume you are referring to laser going through optical diffuser, like typical laser source used in projection system. Regarding DLP3000 using laser illumination, the real problem comes from handling power, in the datasheet www.ti.com/.../dlp3000.pdf section 7.6 Micromirror Array Temperature Calculation, if you can have thermal solution design you could possible use. So far we haven't come across anyone using the part with laser illumination as it is used for 50 - 100 lumen application.
    If you can let me know the what kind of lumen and resolution you are looking at, we can suggest part for you.

    Regarding source code, i am thinking, you are expecting will there source code change for laser type illumination, the answer is no, the DLP3000 controller DLPC300 not require any source code change, typically DLP system provide standard current control PWM and ENABLE strobe to turn on the illuminator which can LED or laser type.

    Typically the content is accepted via RGB888 24-bit interface if you have only still image that is not changing at all then you can add it as splash image and store in the flash.

    Not sure i understand fully about the "background DLP projected" question, DLP is reflective technology, it will reflect the light falling on it to create the image, regarding the projection surface, it depends, in automative hud application it will be through the combiner screen, it is special surface.
