DLP2000: Achieving >120Hz framerates through custom controller (non DLPC2607)

Hi,

I'm curious about the abilities of the DLP2000 to run at significantly higher framerates if a custom controller is used.


While the recommended display driver (DLPC2607) mentions an absolute maximum of 120Hz, the DLP2000 datasheet itself mentions no absolute framerate limit,
showing only a maximum clock of 80MHz, and describing the mirror switching speed as 'negligible' (DLP2000 datasheet, section 7.7.1).

Given that there are 12 data lines running at 80MHz DDR, it would seem to me the DMD itself should be capable framerates in the multiple kHz given an adequately fast controller and sufficient cooling.

Is the DLPC2607 the limiting factor here, or are there other limiting factors within the DLP2000 that keep it from running this quickly?

    We are unable to support custom solutions of this nature (with a custom ASIC instead of the recommended display driver). If you are looking for a particular high-framerate solution, you may want to explore one of our higher-end chipsets.

    I may have thought of a minor workaround to enable higher framerates at monochrome using the vanilla EVM which I will post here for reference:

    Note that each rendered frame is effectively three individual frames representing the individual color channels. If color is not of importance for pattern projection, and/or a custom lightsource is used, this may be taken advantage of by generating a custom video stream with separate patterns per color channel, effectively tripling the original framerate to 320FPS.
