DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2: Splash screen problems

Part Number: DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2

Hi there

I'm currently having some problems with updating the splash screen images on our 3010-g2 device. I've tried using the DLP Lightcrafter v7.0 software, both the basic and advanced programs create the same behaviour.

Our custom splash screen images are being uploaded but its broken up and artefacty, I cannot change the input on the projector once this happens and it happens every time I try to use a custom splash screen. If I flash back to the normal firmware image all functionality is restored. I'm guessing the image formats I've tried are not supported but I've been at this all day and haven't got any closer. I've tried bitmaps, Jpeg (both CrCb 422 and 444) and also PNG files but all produce similar results, all files were made with GIMP 2. I've tried resolutions of 1280*720 and 640*360.

I've even used some of the images on our 3010 gen 1 device and it was working great. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Here is what I've been trying in the simple GUI;
Go to the firmware section, Click Update Flash Image "Get Started" button
select 3010-G2 from dropdown, select latest firmware downloaded from TI as source, name the output and click next
Skip looks
Add our splash screen to first splash location, click next
Apply a short axis flip as we are using rear projection, set default splash to 1, set LED currents, click finish

Then proceed with the update.

I've been trying similar with the advanced GUI and everything seems to work fine when I use the factory default splash screens, as soon as I try to include our own splash images the device becomes unusable with the broken image on screen and inability to change input.

Does anyone know of where I can get some sample images that I can inspect and compare with our splash images?
Or if anyone has any ideas what I'm doing wrong that would be great.

Thanks in advance

Steve

  • Steve,

Thanks for your interest in our DLP products, and welcome to the E2E forums.

There could be an incompatibility between the image sizes you are using and the ones available onboard in the system. The color bar splash screen below is the same 520x320 PNG format used by the default splash screen on this system. Please try it and let me know if you experience any changes.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Philippe

Thank you for the warm welcome.

That image seems to help, I can now see the image you provided on boot, the image is flipped to the correct orientation but then the device becomes unresponsive again. The input does not change to the HDMI connection, my laptop doesnt detect the DLP and these are the messages I get when trying to ask and set the input of the DLP

    Read Cmd:InputSourceSelect, addr:37, subAddr:6 SendRead(FAILED(1))
    Write Cmd:InputSourceSelect, addr:36, subAddr:5 00 Write(FAILED(1))

Similar responses happen for all commands I've tried.
Whenever I send a command I can see the blue lights light up on the board, I get the failed response and then they go off again.

Just to clarify everything works fine when using the factory splash screens.

  • Hi Philippe

Sorry, it appears that the HDMI port on my development laptop has died in the last 24 hours.
Working on another machine just now and the DLP seems to be working fine with the image you provided.

I'm happy to believe that the issue I was experiencing originally was due to a incompatible image format.
Thank you for your help. I will try and create images as close to the one you provided yesterday and try again.
