DLP4500: Uploading Gray Code Structured Light Images into the light crafter device

Part Number: DLP4500

Hi

I am using a DLP4500 and want to upload 44 gray code structured light patterns onto the device. All the images are 1-bit depth in grayscale, 1MB in size and 912x1140 in dimension. Using the DLP LightCrafter 4500 EVM GUI, I tried to create an .img file using the firmware and realised  that the images have to be in RGB. Because of that, I changed all my images to RGB (Still 1-bit depth but 3MB in size). The 44 images were uploaded and compressed to an .img file. When I upload this .img file to the flash drive and try to project the images, I can only find the first two images (index 0 and 1) for projection. My questions are as follow:

  • What could be the possible reason for only showing up the first two images? (I suspect that the flash drive does not have sufficient memory.)
  • Could I delete some internal pattern to free up memory?
  • Instead of converting grayscale image to RGB (which I think is a wastage of memory), could I upload 1-bit grayscale image directly to the flash drive?
  • If uploading all the images into the flash drive is not a good option, what method should I use to display those images with pixel accuracy from my PC?

Thank you very much! Your help is highly appreciated!

  • Hello Jeff,

What you can do is combine the 1-bit depth images to be a part of the 24-bit depth image. This way you will display your 1-bit depth images by displaying 1-bit plane of the 24-bit image. It should make more sense by going to the Create Image tab (under the Image/Firmware tab) within the 4500 GUI firmware.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
