DLPLCR6500EVM: Controller/DMD incompatible error

Part Number: DLPLCR6500EVM

Hi,

I have been using a DLP LightCrafter 6500 for two weeks. I was using the GUI to control it trough USB and HDMI. Now the GUI gives a "Controller/DMD incompatible" error and stays in standby mode. I have tried updating the firmware from version 3.0.0 to version 4.2.0, but I still get the error. When I turn on the board, diodes D8 and D9 are on and D6 pulses regularly. Apparently the controller board is ok, but the DMD doesn't display anything, not even the pre-stored patterns when booting.
It looks very similar to this post: https://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp__mems_micro-electro-mechanical_systems/advanced_light_control/f/94/t/618438

I would appreciate any clue on how to solve this problem, thanks.

  • Hello Aubin,

First welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E forums.  Second, my apologies that somehow I didn't see this post earlier.

This is typical of an EVM where the DMD has become damaged somehow.  Do you have more than one kit?  If so, carefully swap DMD's and see if it follows the DMD.  If not let us know so that we can determine where to go from here?

  • Hi Fizix,

Sadly, I only have this kit. I think a component burnt on the DMD board as there was smoke coming from the back of the DMD board when I was trying to figure out what was wrong.
  • Aubin,

We are very sorry to hear that.  Please contact the distributor that you bought the kit from to see what the warranty terms are in your region.  If it is in warranty, then work with them on this.
