DLPLCR4500EVM: Lens Damage and Possible Replacement Parts

Part Number: DLPLCR4500EVM

Hi all,

I've been using the projector for a bit now but I have noticed recently that the centre of the images that I am projecting appear to be out of focus. Upon visual inspection it appears that there is a mark on the projector lens. No amount of cleaning seem to be able to clear the mark.

My questions are really as follows:

  • What could have caused this damage as it was not present when first using the projector.
  • If this lens module has to be replaced where could I source the part?

Any Assistance would be greatly appreciated,

Kind Regards,

John

PS, Please see attached some photos of the damage and its affects.

  • Hi John,
From the picture you shared, it seems to be either a foreign material deposit/residue on lens or a scratch which might have been caused by a sharp object. TI sources complete optical engine and the lens are not sold as replacement parts.

  • Hi Vivek,

    Thanks for the reply.

It's definitely not a scratch as we have been very careful with the unit. To us, it looks more like a burn mark of some sort as it's positions is right in the middle of the projected output. Would that make sense? Can this happen?

Obviously we need to get the unit back up and going or get a replacement if the unit is faulty. What would be your recommendations on how best to proceed? Where can we get a replacement part if that is the route we go? If it's to be returned what are the options? Time is not our friend on this one so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    John.

  • Hi Vivek

Just adding to the other message,

In terms of replacing the optical engine, what would that process be and would you have any idea of cost?

Also as a side question: Do we need to get the exact same light engine as the one that came with the unit or could we request a lower power optical unit that would be compatible with the dlp 4500 board? This is just thinking off the top of my head but any information would be helpful!

    Best Regards,

    John

  • Hi Nik, Thanks for the suggestion.
    Hi John,
The flex cable between Board and optical engine needs to match. It is safe to go for same light engine.
Your best option is to contact Wintech (www.wintechdigital.com/) or Anhuaoe ( http://www.anhuaoe.com/). Please see if they could provide you a replacement engine.
