Hi TI Support Team,

I'm new to DLP and trying to find out the binary pattern rate for the following DLP models if there's any.

- DLP3000

- DLP3010

- DLP3310

- DLP470TP

Thanks,

  • Hello Wing,
Welcome to DLP forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology.
DLP technology is a chipset solution consisting of a DMD (ex. DLP2010), a controller (DLPC3430 or DLPC3740) and a Power management IC (PMIC)(ex DLPA2005). Each chipset (DMD & controller) is targeted for a specific application like display or light control. Please review the devices in “Advanced Light Control” (www.ti.com/.../products.html). You will find Binary Pattern Rate in the parameters for the DLP devices .\

Some of the controllers work with DMDs listed in “Display & Projection”. The following are such combination:
    1. DLPC300 controller & DLP3000 DMD – up to 4,000 Hz
    2. DLPC3470 Controller & DLP2010 DMD – up to 2,880 Hz
    3. DLPC3478 controller & DLP3010 DMD – up to 2,880 Hz
    4. DLPC3479 controller & DLP4710 DMD – up to 24,40 Hz

Currently there is no advanced light controller available for DLP3310 and DLP470TP dmds.

    Regards,
    Vivek
  • Wing,

Welcome to the E2E forums and thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

May I ask for additional details on this inquiry? The DMDs you have listed here are all part of our display chipsets, which do not support binary pattern modes (typical of our light control chipsets).

    Best Regards,
    Philippe Dollo
  • Hi Philippe,

First off, let's define pattern rate.  I may have mistaken it for something else.  I thought it's how fast the pattern changing on the micro-mirror. Is it not?

Now that my project has narrowed down to DMD DLP3010 and 3310.  I'm trying to figure out which one has the best performance in terms of frame rate (fps); another word the fastest mirror switching rate and the input data rate when configuring with specific dedicated display controller.

For DMD DLP3010, datasheet recommends to use display controller DLPC3433 or DLPC3438, what is the frame rate and input data rate for such system?

For DMD DLP3310, datasheet recommends to use display controller DLPC3437, what is the frame rare and input data rate for this system?

I'm new to DLP, so please bear with me if my questions don't make sense.  Trust me, your expertise would help me go a long way.

Also, I heard that DLP3000 will be obsolete.  Will DLP3010 be happening soon since it's the next product line of 3000?  How long the 3010 will stay on market?

    Thank you,

    Wing

  • Hi Vivek,

You mentioned DLPC3478 controller will work with DMD DLP3010.  My application is mostly for 3D vision and given with the following...

    Requirements:

    - Frame rate: >120 frame/sec, ideally > 200 Hz

    - Memory Storage: Store up to 44 patterns of binary lines (e.g., Gray Code)

    - Mirror Numbers: Prefer 1920 x 1080 but 1280 x 720 is acceptable

    - Pixel Orientation Layout: Orthogonal, no diamond shape

    - Control Feature: Support external trigger

    - Software Feasibility: Prefer software API that is similar to DLP3000 evaluation board.

    Questions:

    1)  Will such combination satisfy of all my requirements above?

    2)  If not, what other combinations will work with DLPC3478?  What about DLP3310?  I'm open to option other than DLP3000 family chipset.

    3)  Is there any evaluation module (EVM) offer with the DLPC3478?

    4)  TI web stated the controller is in prototype, will DLPC3478 be released to full production soon?

    5)  If any, what level of engineering support can TI offer to assist customers in designing their own display/light control module?

Hope I'm clear with my questions.

    Thank you,

    Wing

  • Hi Wing,
The DLPC3478 controller and DLP3010 DMD chip-set combination should meet your requirement. For machine vision application , you want to use DLP chip-set (controllers & DMD) designed for light control application. The Display chip-set solution like DLP3437 controller & DLP3310 are optimized for display application, the input pattern will under go image processing algorithm , may not give pixel level control.

    1) Will such combination satisfy of all my requirements above?
    -> please evaluate - DLPC3438 & DLP3010 chip-set combination

    2) If not, what other combinations will work with DLPC3478? What about DLP3310? I'm open to option other than DLP3000 family chipset.
    -> DLPC3478 work only with DLP3010 DMD.

    3) Is there any evaluation module (EVM) offer with the DLPC3478?
-> Will be available near future when DLPC3478 is in production

    4) TI web stated the controller is in prototype, will DLPC3478 be released to full production soon?
    -> Very soon,

    5) If any, what level of engineering support can TI offer to assist customers in designing their own display/light control module?
-> The EVM , reference design and supporting documents like programmers guide should be sufficient to get you going. You can always use this forum to for additional help.

  • Vievk,

You've been a great help.  Thank you for that.  I'd like to get some details on your answers.

    3)  Is there a set release date for DLPC3478 EVM or not yet determined?

    6)  Do you have a estimated price for the DLPC3478 EVM?

As for the DLP3010, I have the following questions.

10.1)  How long has this product been released on the market?

10.2)  Will it be obsolete soon like its family DLP3000?  If we're going to use this combo, we expect it to be on the market for a long time.

Please keep us informed of DLPC3478 EVM production release status.  We can't wait to start the evaluation for this product.

    Thanks,

    Wing

  • Hi Wing,
    Thank you for kind words.
Please find response to your questions:

    3) Is there a set release date for DLPC3478 EVM or not yet determined?
    - Near future , very soon

    6) Do you have a estimated price for the DLPC3478 EVM?
    - No, not announced yet

As for the DLP3010, I have the following questions.

10.1) How long has this product been released on the market?

10.2) Will it be obsolete soon like its family DLP3000? If we're going to use this combo, we expect it to be on the market for a long time.

-DLP3010 has been in market for few years and it one of main stream devices in DLP Pico portfolio. EOL should not be a concern, we have several customers doing new product development on this device.

Please keep us informed of DLPC3478 EVM production release status. We can't wait to start the evaluation for this product.

    - Thanks and appreciate it.

    regards,
    Vivek Thakur
  • Hi Vivek,

Thank you for your help.  Where can I keep track on the release of DLP3478EVM?  We working on a project based on DLP3010 and this kit would help us tremendously.
