DLP2010: DLP2010

Part Number: DLP2010
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC3435, DLPA2005, , DLPC3470

Hello,

I have several questions before I place.

1. Does "DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2010 Evaluation Module" include PCB board with DLP2010, DLPC3435, and DLPA2005?

2. If I use external light source (e.g. Laser), do I need the optical engine? or what additional unit do I have to purchase?

3. What is the binary pattern rate of DLP2010?  (I know that 2.8 kHz for DLP2010NIR, but no information for DLP2010)?

4. What is the main difference between "DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2010 Evaluation Module" and "DLP® LightCrafter 4500™ Evaluation Module"?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Yohan,
Welcome to DLP forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology.

The DLP technology offers chip-set solutions which include a DMD, controller and power management IC. These chip-sets are designed for a specific application like projection & display or light control. The light control chipset are designed for structured light, spectral sensing and 3D printing application.

What is your application or use case? Is your application light control?
In that case, you need to review devices available under light controller. www.ti.com/.../products.html

Often, the DMD may be common between light control and display. It is controller specification you need to review for information like pattern rate.
    Response to your questions:

    1. Does "DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2010 Evaluation Module" include PCB board with DLP2010, DLPC3435, and DLPA2005?
    - This evm is designed for video & display application. The list of DLP component for EVM is correct.

    2. If I use external light source (e.g. Laser), do I need the optical engine? or what additional unit do I have to purchase?
    - Illumination ex. LED, laser are integral part of the optical engine. You need either source or make an optical engine with your preferred choice of illumination.

    3. What is the binary pattern rate of DLP2010? (I know that 2.8 kHz for DLP2010NIR, but no information for DLP2010)?
Please review data DLPC3470 controller. This controller works with DLP2010 DMD.

    4. What is the main difference between "DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2010 Evaluation Module" and "DLP® LightCrafter 4500™ Evaluation Module"?
DLPDLCR2010 EVM is designed for video & display application. The DLPLCR4500 EVM is designed for light control application.

  • Hi Vivek,

    Thank you for the information.

I am a bit confused of the difference between light control and display.

We just want to use your DMD with switching on and off very fast to reflect our laser beam for our purpose.  We do not need anything else such as optical engine.

    1. If we want just micromirror arrays with controller, what do we have to purchase?

    2. If we purchase "DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2010 Evaluation Module" or "DLP® LightCrafter 4500™ Evaluation Module", can we focus our laser to DMD and use the reflected beam without passing through the the lens?

    2. In this purpose, is there any difference between "DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2010 Evaluation Module" and "DLP® LightCrafter 4500™ Evaluation Module"?

    Thank you,

  • Hi Yohan,
You should use DLP controllers designed for light control application because they will provide pixel level and exposure timing control.

    1. If we want just micromirror arrays with controller, what do we have to purchase?
    - If you want to use readily available board then purchase an EVM and use electronic to drive DMD. You may be able to unmount DMD from the optical engine and use it along with flex cable and mounting hardware.

    2. If we purchase "DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2010 Evaluation Module" or "DLP® LightCrafter 4500™ Evaluation Module", can we focus our laser to DMD and use the reflected beam without passing through the the lens?
    - Not as it, it need to unmounted DMD from the optical engine and use in your set-up.

    2. In this purpose, is there any difference between "DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2010 Evaluation Module" and "DLP® LightCrafter 4500™ Evaluation Module"?
DLP Light Crafter 4500 will be better suited because it will give you required control.

  • Hi Vivek,

    Thank you for your reply.

I recently purchased a "DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2010 Evaluation Module" and successfully unmounted DMD from the optical engine.

Do you have any way to switch on and off each micro-mirror randomly with some frequency (kHz). In other words, can each mirror turn on and off independently very fast?

Is this related to random row addressing?

    Thank you,

    Yohan

  • Hi Yohan,
DLP2010 EVM is designed for display video application and the DLPC3435 controller used in this EVM does not support this capability.

TI has announced DLPC3470 controller for light controller application. This controller works with DLP2010 DMD. www.ti.com/.../dlpc3470

This controller supports the function you mentioned. The DLPC3470 EVM will be available soon!

    regards,
    Vivek
  • Hi Vivek,

    Thank you for the confirmation.

    1. Do I have to purchase another EVM if I want to use DLPC3470? or Can I just swap DLPC3435 with DLPC3470?

    2. Does "DLP® LightCrafter 4500™ Evaluation Module" have the capability?

    Thank you,
    Yohan
  • Hi Yohan,
    Your question:
    1. Do I have to purchase another EVM if I want to use DLPC3470? or Can I just swap DLPC3435 with DLPC3470?
Vivek - You will need a new DLPC3470 EVM.

    Your question:
    2. Does "DLP® LightCrafter 4500™ Evaluation Module" have the capability?

Vivek- Yes, This EVM will also support the light control features.

    Regards,
    Vivek
