Hello,

I am using the stored pattern sequence function, and when I load the patterns into the software, the shape of the pattern image is changed. The pattern should be circular, but is changed to oval in the software. The actual image projected is also oval, as confirmed by images taken from a camera. We are using the 608 x 684 dimensions as suggested in the user manual. Attached images are how the pattern should look like and how they look in the software. How can we resolve this problem?

Hi Niklas,

Please note that this particular DMD is diamond pixel orientation, although it looks stretched on the PC when the final image is generated it is applying the diamond maping.

Hi Sanjeev,

Thanks for the info! The linked threads are very helpful.

However, are there any other solutions other than "Create the image of size 854x480 and then stretch the image to 608x684 using and image editor and then upload it through the GUI." as suggested by Sureshkumar Manimuthu? The reason is that we are worried that stretching the image twice could lose details, and we need our patterns to be ideally pretty accurate.

Also, if we can't find a good software solution, does TI have DLP/DMD devices with orthogonal tiling that are similar to the LightCrafter?

Hi Yiqun,
I think you don't need to create the 854x480 images, rather you can create image of size that matching with the DMD native resolution, 608x684, although the image looks stretched when seen on windows paint application, but when it is displayed on the DMD it will exactly map to the the DMD diamond pixel mapping.
Yes, actually we have launched, newest version of the chipset, please refer to this link www.ti.com/.../dlp2010evm-lc
In this DMD pixels are in orthogonal format.

Hi Sanejev,
We did upload images of 608x684, but when we took images of the projection with a camera, the resulting images still look stretched. What could we be missing here?

Yiqun,
I am still suspecting while generating the circle like pattern on diamond orientation DMD, you need to account for DMD diamond orientation display property. Could you attach the image? Let me have a look at the same.

Above is the 608 x 684 image that should be projected. Below is an image captured by a camera that shows the image shined on to a material. You can see the oval shape in the center, which should be round as in the original image.

Okay, as you can see the image is stretched in the captured image, you can experiment drawing the input image in ellipse shape then experiment.
