DLPC3430: Freeze Frame duration

Part Number: DLPC3430

In the attached document it states, in section 5.1.3.18.3 that it is undesirable for the image to be frozen for a long period of time.  Would you be able to tell me why this is the case?  Also, would you be able to provide a duration that would be safe?

Kind Regards,
Stephen Craig

  • Hi Stephen

Freezing the image for long periods of time wouldn't necessarily create any issues as such. It is considered undesirable when external video is given as input, because, even though the display image is frozen, the incoming video input is still processed, which implies:
    1. freezing the image doesn't reduce power consumption
    2. any image processing algorithms like CAIC or LABB which must be applied to incoming frames could be incorrectly applied to the frozen frame, resulting in the image quality of the frozen frame to waver.

Otherwise, it is safe to freeze the image for any duration.
