DLP4500NIR: Direct Control (without DLPC350)

Part Number: DLP4500NIR
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC350, , DLP4500, DLPC150, DLPC3470, DLP2010NIR

Hello everyone,

I need to control the DMD directly without using your DLPC350 controller (it's too complicated, difficult to mount and too big for my applications),

it does not bother me that the whole thing will be much slower than your controller, and that I can damage it during testing, I can carry it consequences...

I want to buy a larger amount of these DMD (DLP4500NIR) for the production of devices,
but I must be sure that I will be able to drive it properly and achieve success.

I connect DMD to my controller and I am sending data to DLP4500NIR on DATA lines [23: 0]

and I confirm it with DCLK signal, until now everything is clear, but the description in the datasheet is unclear, devoid of important elements.

I have technical questions to the TI employee :

1) At what moment do I need to provide the -LOADB signal ?

2) When to give signals: TRC, SCTRL, SAC_BUS, SAC_CLK ?

3) How to do the mirror reset procedure using the DRC_BUS, -DRC_OE and DRC_STROBE signals ?

4) how to "park" the mirrors ?

5) Can I get a more detailed description of the DLP4500NIR control (CMOS memory access protocol),
especially the DATA CONTROL INPUTS and MIRROR RESET CONTROL INPUTS lines ?

Please help me

Best regards

Tomasz

  • Tomasz,

Welcome to the E2E forums, and thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

I do not believe it is possible to drive the DLP4500NIR without the DLPC350. I'll check with my team regarding alternatives to account for size and complexity and we will get back to you within a few days.

    Best Regards,
    Philippe Dollo
  • Dear Philippe,

    thank you for answer, but...

please, have some faith in people,
maybe I can handle the controls, maybe not, give me the opportunity to try.

I will not blame anyone if I damage DMD during these experiments.

I do not want other modules built on the DLPC350 chipset,

I need only a few data from you regarding the control signals you have not described correctly in the documentation for DLP4500.
Why do you immediately discourage people from experimenting with your product, I bought it legally and I would like to know how to control it.

Can you answer these simple questions that I asked ?

    Best regards

    Tomasz

  • Dear Tomasz,
The interface between DLP4500 and DLPC350 is proprietary. The DLP chip-set DMD and controller are designed for specific application to enable optimum and reliable performance. TI support only chip-set based solution i.e DMD driven through controller.

    regards,
    Vivek
  • Dear Vivek,

In that case, if you can please give me the patent number (or a link to it) for this chipset,

because I would like to read what information I can share in the network

without violating this patent, in case I can decipher your interface between DMD and the controller (in LighCrafter 4500)

I do not have a problem with this DMD, so I do not need a TI solution,
I just wanted a full and accurate specification for DMD which I bought and

I would like to use without your over-sized (for my needs) controller..

If you do not want to help me in this matter, I will do it myself.

    Best regards

    Tomasz

  • Dear Tomasz,
Could you please share wavelength required for you application and also concern about using the DLPC350 controller ? It is power , size ...

There is another DLP options available for NIR wavelength DLP2010NIR along with DLPC150 or DLPC3470 controller. This controller is optimized for size and power.
Please review and let us know if this meets your requirement.

    regards,
    Vivek
  • Dear Vivek,

I need DMD for 700-2500nm range,
but your controller in my applications is like a cannon used for a fly,
due to the BGA419 housing requires a multi-layer complicated plate,
it's big, it has most interfaces that I do not need, power consumption is also too big.

I know DLP2010NIR, but it has too little active surface, and the documentation is also without details ...
I see that you do not want to help me and others, that I'm doomed to decipher the transmission protocol and the DMD commands myself,

it will be hard, but we can do it.
If you had this data available to everyone, it would be simpler, it would open up the possibility of using it in new innovative devices,

and so you condemn many interesting projects to failure.

    Regards

    Tomasz
