DLPDLCR3010EVM: Generate UV pattern for maskless photolithography

Part Number: DLPDLCR3010EVM

Hello,

I'm interested in UV pattern generation for maskless photolithography and I have DLPDLCR3010EVM at hand.

I tried to search around to modify the optics in this forum but didn't find any solution.

What I'm thinking about is controlling the DMD with the controller and then using external UV LED illumination to generate the pattern.

Here I have some concerns

1. Is it possible to control the DMD after removal of the optical engine? My model is DLPDLCR3010EVM

2. The DMD is encapsulated inside the optical engine. Is it possible to take it out for free space access while maintaining the flex cable connection? If possible, will the heat dissipation be a problem?

As an alternative, is there any relevant product that can be used directly or after some customization (as least as possible)  for my UV pattern generation purpose?

Any comments or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hi Qiang,
Welcome to DLP forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology.

    Please use DLP3010EVM-LC EVM www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware .
This EVM is designed for light control application like yours. It is based on DLPC3478 controller and DLP3010 DMD.

The DLPDLCR3010EVM is designed for display application. The input image goes through several image processing step optimized for visual display. Which may be undesirable for your application.

Your best option is to contact optical engine manaufactuers and inquire fi they could modify an existing engine for your application.

In case you modify the EVM, then please note that:
    1. The EVM firmware will not power up if any of the component like DMD or LEDs are not connected.
    2. The optical elements in the engine are designed for visible light. The extensive exposure of UV light may create a permanent damage.

  • Hello Vivek,
    Thanks for your information.

I checked the DPL3010EVM-LC and it seems that the only difference is the controller. It's based on DLPC3478 controller while the DLPDLCR3010EVM is based on the DLPC3438 controller. I'm not sure how different they are in genearting pattern illumination.

The DMD still can't be accessed by the external UV illumination, which is necessary for my application.

I actually noticed another model DLP LightCrafter 6500 with the DMD exposed. It just consists of a controller and a DMD. Is it possible to use the cotroller and the DMD in my DLPDLCR3010EVM in a similar fashion?

Yes, I know that the EVM firmware will not power up if the LEDs are disconnected. I noticed that in one post it's suggested to disable the LEDs instead of disconnection, so that the cotroller can still be powered up. Do you think it can work?

    Thanks again for your help.
    Best,
    Qiang
  • Hi Qiang,
The DLP technology is a chip-set solution targeted for specific application. The DLPC3478 and DLP3010 DMD are designed for light control application. Where as same DMD DLP3010 along with DLPC3438 controller is designed for display application.

The DLPC3478 controller is designed for structured light application and provides a wide range  of capability & flexibility in pattern generation. Where as in case of DLPC3438 , the input data goes through several image processing steps which may be undesirable in your application.

DLPLightcrafter 6500 can also support your application requirement.

I do not understand the statement "Is it possible to use the controller and the DMD in my DLPDLCR3010EVM in a similar fashion?"

    regards,
    Vivek
