Linux/DLP9000: DLP9000

Hi

I have a DLP Lightcrafter 9000, with dlp 9000 dmd, I had connected it to a laptop with an on board Intel HD graphic card and had no issue, Today I tried to connect it to an old PC and saw that the display was halved meaning a resolution of 2560*800 pixels.The operating systems of the laptop and PC are Win10 and Ubuntu18 respectively.

 Is the problem from the graphic card or the operating system? I also have tried connecting it to a Raspberry Pi 3 board and the result was the same, the resolution was 2560*800.

    Hi Pourya,

    Just to clarify, with your original laptop you are getting 2560*1600 resolution as normal? One thing to check would be to make sure you are running the EVM in dual pixel mode and check the display dimension settings in the Video Mode tab when using the GUI.

    In my laptop everything is OK and I have no problem, and yes I 'm running it in dual pixel mode (I don't know exactly what it does but the supplier has told me to run it in dual pixel mode). What I want to know is that why can't I run it with an old PC or Raspberry Pi 3, is it because of the hardware or there's a software for Linux that I'm missing?

    You will need to explore if the Ubuntu distribution for the old PC (and Raspberry π 3) can handle the EDID information being returned by the monitor. I have seen issues like this on Raspberry π with some monitors before, but do not have a solution.

    May I ask another question for myself? If I change the operating system of the laptop from windows to Ubuntu, will it still be able to run the Dlp? Since I'm not very familiar with Linux, I want to know if I need to install any software for DLP in linux.

    It seems the graphic card was too old, I installed Ubuntu in the original laptop and it works well.

    Hello Pourya,

    Very good to hear. Regarding any particular distribution of Linux, it depends on the rev of the distribution and the hardware (as you discovered). Thanks for letting us know.

    Regarding my previous problem, I have a new one if you can help me.
    I bought a PC with Intel HD 500 graphic driver. When I turn on the computer and connect the DLP, the PC works fine and identifies the resolution correctly, but if I first connect the DLP to the PC and then turn it on, it seems the PC can not respond to the DLP and the DLP won't work if I even connect it to other computers.
    Just wanted to know about the EDID informations that was mentioned, it may be that the PC can't respond well to the information the DLP needs just at the boot.
    I thought maybe the Ubuntu can't detect the graphic card at boot but when I plug in some full hd monitors they work without any problem. Is there any way to detect the source of problem?

    This sounds like a driver issue.  Linux is a bit less friendly when working with Display drivers and customization.

    You may want to post this same question in some Linux forums.  Also check to see if Intel has any updated Linux drivers for the Graphics chipset in your new PC.
