DLPLIGHTCRAFTER: How to power 6 DLPs (lightcrafter) together?

Part Number: DLPLIGHTCRAFTER

Dear TI,

I was trying to power six DLPs together for an experiment, but only three of them booted up.

The other three DLPs were off, after the white boot screen, and the red LEDs on their power board were lit.

From what I could read in the manual, each DLP should be powered by a 5V-2A (minimum) power adaptor.

My bench-top power supply was set to 5V-20A.

Is it not enough for 6 DLPs?

Or did I miss anything?

Cheers.

Best,

Jiaqi Huang

  • Dear TI,
I've replaced the 1.5mm cable (diameter) with main lead (3mm cable). and soldered 2x4700uF capacitors at the cable junction.
Now 5 DLPs (out of 6) can be controlled at the same time.
When the last one was switched on, its internet was not functioning well.
I'll try to solder more capacitors at the cable junction.
Please let me know if there is a document, describing the inrush power consumption of the DLP, or any suggestion of capacitor values?
    Cheers.

    Best,
    Jiaqi Huang
  • Hi Jiaqi,

    Thank you for your question.

We'll check and let you know if there is any relevant documentation.

Please keep us updated with your results.

  • Thanks for the reply, Azad.
    Now it's sorted.
Just for your information, for powering 6 DLPs (lightcrafter),
I've soldered 4 wires (1.5mm gauge) together for power positive and negative (so 8 wires in total).
And there are two 4700uF and one 2000uF capacitors soldered in parallel at the cable joint.
    Cheers.

    Best,
