DLPLCR4500EVM: Using external triggers in pattern sequence mode

Part Number: DLPLCR4500EVM

Hello TI community,

for our project we have to use an external trigger signal to control the pattern sequence displayed on the DMD.

However, when connecting the signal to the provided TRIG IN jumpers J6 and J8 there is no apparent effect (we did configure the trigger settings in the provided software).

Now in the guide book we also stumbled across a section mentioning J7 as a trigger input.

Can you expain the difference between these connectors J6/J8 (jumpers) and J7? And how are they supposed to be used?

Best regards,

Robert Klassert

  • Hi Robert,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in DLP technology.

Our team will get back to you soon regarding your query.

  • Hi Robert,

Since you want to use external trigger in to control your pattern sequence, I suggest you look at J11. It has both external TRIG_IN_1 and TRIG_IN_2 lines which you'll need to drive externally to control your sequence. Kindly refer to DLPLCR4500EVM Schematic for detailed info about jumpers. Mind that you also need to select proper voltage level according to your external signal for both the trigger inputs by jumping the proper pair of pins on J10 & J12.

    Hope this answers your question.

  • Thanks Hirak!

I think I am talking about a different version of the LCR4500 where J11 corresponds to J7 and J6/8 to J10/12.
But anyways, now it's clear how to use the jumpers in conjunction with the trigger input.

Just one more thing: Do we have to drive both TRIG_IN_1 and 2 or can we choose one?
Because we just want to apply the signal of a function generator coming from one BNC connector.

    Best regards,
    Robert
  • Hi Robert,

    You're welcome.
When using external trigger mode, every pulse on TRIG_IN_1 causes the LCR4500 to start displaying the next pattern in the sequence, While the TRIG_IN_2 is used to pause and play the pattern sequence running. So they serve different functionalities. Depending on your requirements you can choose to drive any one or both of them.

    Regards,
    Hirak.
