DLPC350: Can't communicate with DLPC350 until HID devices are uninstalled.

Hi,

We are using the DLP350 controller on a custom board. It is communicating to the host PC via USB.

We have several of these systems. In most cases the USB communication operates fine, but on some systems your software (Lightcrafter 45000) and our custom software is unable to connect to the DMD until we uninstall all of the HID device drivers and restart the system.

This is proving a big problem for our operations. Do you know what the solution is to this?

We are running windows 10 and the light crafter version is v3.1.0 [Jun 1 2017 08:55:26].

This is a known issue on Windows 10 environments. We aim to fix this issue on the next version of the GUI which is in validation stage and will be released soon. I can inform you as soon as it is released.

Thanks Hirak. However this problem also presents itself when using our custom software as well, that is it occurs independently of the GUI. Is this also going to be fixed?

Hi Oliver,

Kindly make sure you are on the latest PROM flashed on DLPC350. There were issues with HID enumeration on the previous GUI build. The new GUI does not present any USB HID issues till now on Windows 10.

Hi Hirak,

Are you talking about the firmware "DLPR350PROM_V3.1: CURRENT VERSION -- DLPC350 Configuration and Support Firmware", version 3.1 from here (www.ti.com/.../dlpr350) (the marked date is 14 Jun 2017).
I believe we are already using this (with our custom images).

Similar USB communication issue was resolved in another thread e2e.ti.com/.../698715 . Kindly take a look, this provides a workaround for the USB issue.

Thanks Hirak, but that thread seems to talk about a different problem. We don't get any errors about data mismatch. Also in our case the problem is not reproducible, sometimes it works and sometimes not. When it fails, we have to go through the process of uninstalling all HID devices.

Since you say that only some systems you observe the problem, are those particular systems have their HID drivers updated to the latest version?

I am not sure of this, I will check. How would you suggest upgrading it? From windows update?

Yes, kindly check with your system manufacturer for latest drivers, and also try checking that Windows 10 is on latest version.

Hi Hirak,

This happened again yesterday actually.

The DMD had been connecting fine for a long time >months.

Yesterday it failed to connect, so I went to device manager and uninstalled all of the HID devices relating to the DMD.

After unplugging and reconnecting the DMD it was recognised, the devices reappeared and it worked fine again.

I have attached screenshots of the HID device driver information from Device Manager below.

Hi Oliver,

Are you on the latest version of the DLPC350 firmware (v3.1.0)? If not kindly update the firmware and check if the problem persists.

The problem appears to be tied to some specific drivers on specific PCs. Did you observe any kind of similarity in the PCs that were problematic with the device.?

This is Oliver's colleague. We still have the problem with device recognition.

I have attempted to disable the other HID devices on the system but the LightCrafter software will not start with the DMD.

I see in the driver that it uses the VID and PID to locate the device. This matches with the device manager for the dmd but not for the device that confuses it.

Any suggestions will be welcome. This is an urgent issue for us at present and is preventing completion of products.

The problem still exists for us and we are testing at the moment. The above code did not fix the problem.

Hi Jonathan,

We have not yet been reproduce your specific issue on our systems. This seems to be a bug related to HID Drivers which are not fully compatible with Windows 10. We have Windows 10 x64 Dell laptops but we don't see the issues on our machines. Could you maybe try with another PCs with different hw configuration? Currently we are preoccupied with other work so it may be 3-4 weeks more till we get a chance to look into this. We appreciate your patience.
