What is pixel clock?

When a datasheet for example states "Supports Pixel Clock up to 150 MHz", what does that mean?

I need to pass some info to an FPGA programmer and I'm sure he'll ask what that means. e2e.ti.com/.../4760.Capture.JPG

Hello Mike,

Typically this refers to the DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort data clock used for these digital interfaces.

Did you have a particular DMD/Controller that you are looking at?

Hi Mike,

The pixel clock is the actual clock used for the individual pixel data. If you look up standard video timing requirements you can find more information. This maximum clock rate (combined with other information such as front and back porch timing and image resolution) will effect your maximum achievable framerate.
