DLP Lightcrafter 4500 + DLP4500NIR

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4500NIR, DLP4500, DLPNIRSCANEVM
Hi!

I want to acquire a DLP Lightcrafter 4500 set and mount a DLP4500NIR.
I'm interested to mounting the model DLP4500NIRFQD (98pins), is it compatible?
Can I mount the DMD chip and make it work without problems? (without taking into account the optics, which I know is not the right one). Thanks!
  • Hello Albert,

The Lightcrafter 4500 uses the DLP4500FQE, not the DLP4500FQD. Therefore, you would want to look at the DLP4500NIRFQE. While I have not heard of anyone replacing the DLP4500 for the DLP4500NIR, I believe it should electrically work. Obviously the optics will not be compatible though.

You may be interested in our DLPNIRSCANEVM or looking at one of the third party DLP4500NIR modules such www.anhuaoe.com/.../268

    Thanks,

  • Hi Kyle,

We have contacted Anhuaoe, but they tell us that the power W / cm2 is very low, in another thread that I have about maximum power you told me that with a good cooling system the DLP4500NIR has been able to
make 2-5W / cm2 (Using the FQD package). Given that Anhuaoe have indicated to us that they do not reach that much power, that's why we decided to make this change. The idea is to be able to use a module
like the Lightcrafter 4500 or similar controlling the DLP4500NIR (FQE or FQD) and my target is to try to emit with maximum power possible. Do not take into account the optics, only the chip. What do you think? Thank you very much for your help!
  • Hello Albert,

Electrically the connection will be fine if you use the DLP4500NIRFQE. However, like I said I don't think the optics will work well and I am unsure if you will be able to reach your desired power level anyway.

Perhaps you could continue conversations with various optical module makers. If your volume is high enough perhaps they would be interested in helping develop a higher powered solution. I am personally not aware of one that exists at the moment though.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hello Kyle,

I have another query, I know I can try to replace the DMD with a DLP4500NIRFQE, but the DLP4500 LightCrafter I see that it has an RGB LED emitter, as I want to emit in NIR.
I think I need a NIR transmitter, which is mounted in 4500 LightCrafter emits NIR? Do you have any modules or LEDs that you can mount? (Do not consider optics) Thank you!
  • Hello Albert,

You could potentially find LEDs to replace the RGB LEDs in the system. However, I am unaware of any modules designed for this. You can see a teardown of the light engine at e2e.ti.com/.../278008. The engine uses OSRAM LE A Q9WP, LE CG Q9WP, and LE B Q9WP LEDs. You could contact OSRAM to see if they have similar LED packages in the IR wavelength, but a quick search on my end didn't turn up anything. Alternatively Luminus is another popular LED manufacturer.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hi Albert,

You also may be interested in checking out this module from EKB which could be a better path forward to reach your desired optical power level www.ti.com/.../endequipmentproductfolder.tsp
